To: habs4ever
it is a perfect kid's book tho
 it is not jarring
 it is friendly warm highspirited
To: lodwick
Hey Lod, you've been summoned over at the Canteen. It appears you are the pinata for tonight ;-)
To: andysandmikesmom
good, she finally went into her yard
 it cooled down
it was a long boring afternoon in house for her
and at end of it she started to whine
To: palo verde
All those book are written in a style we'd find arch by today's standards. They are kind of Boy's Own Adventure stuff :-)If you want amusing stuff, have you tried PG Wodehouse and the Jeeves series???
To: habs4ever
    I don't mind his style
 he is so sincere
sometimes it's a little much hearing how heroic his hero is
but I can't resist his ingenuousness
I just wish it were set on the desert of Araby
something fresher, and more interestin' than London
To: habs4ever
mrs pollifax's adventures take place in exotic places
one was in thailand, one was in roumania, one was in morocco, and one was in jordan
oh another one was in burma
lol I've either been in the jungle or out on the desert
I learned what a whirling dervish is
To: palo verde
Book set in the desert in the 20's would be most un PC today.I read all the John Buchan novels, he of the 39 Steps fame, and lots of old fashioned bigotry and xenophobia in them. But hey, back in 1928, London was a happening town ;-)There are always the Eric Ambler novels set in Europe in the pre-war period, in Istanbul, Lisbon, etc...
To: all
    look what I found
lol it sure is pretty where hair and westy and andysmom are right now

To: all

England lost a lot in WW2
before that war they were top dog
 afterwards, they were not
To: westmex
    what is green?
 what is rain?
To: palo verde
Hey, that cam shot is a good one.Good of you to post it :-)
The novel 39 Steps is different in many ways from the movie, and Buchan did follow ups with Greenmantle and Mr Standfast, all set during WWI.
To: palo verde
Nope, not lavender, but a light blue between the clouds....
