I am not agreeing that they should have been, however, there is one very big difference. Israel is the land promised by God to His people. It is by divine ordinance THEIR land.

There is nothing in the four gospels to say that Jesus was celibate, or even that he was not a widower. The gospels record only what the Disciples thought important, not every aspect of Jesus life.

Jesus was an observant Jew, was he not?? If so, then it would have been VERY odd for him not to have taken a wife. (I think. I am no expert on ancient Jewish customs)

Ratty, I have lived in many states and several countries. I have been in many churches of several faiths. My point is that because one learns of one or a few crackpot Baptist ministers or pedophile Catholic priests, it does not follow that "many" of the group share those views.

One of my best friends on the west coast is married to an Episcopalian priest (together we fought Planned Parenthood of King County for a few years and really got under their skin hee hee hee) and she told me that the seminaries taught that Immaculate Conception was just a nice story, and that the priests could preach it at Christmastime because the people like to hear it, but no one "in the know" is actually expected to believe it.
I asked another man about it who I knew had studied for E. priesthood in California but became a community church pastor instead, and he said it was true - and much worse was being taught in the seminaries. He left with bad blood between himself and the teachers because he argued in class constantly that the Bible was either written by hands under guidance of the Holy Spirit or it wasn't, and if it wasn't then they should all pack up and go home; if it was, the teachers were blasphemous at best.

There are several hundred married priests and two married Bishops that are converts from the Church of England to the Catholic Church. So there is always the option of becoming a married Episcopal Priest and then converting.

You are correct, and it would be preposterous to think he could have been a Rabi, which he was while never married.

I had always thought that the Catholic Church came up with this celibacy notion, because in the Middle Ages, the children of Priests were making property claims on Church property, after the passing of the Priests. But, I guess not.

You will find that there is a very wide range of teaching and beliefs within the Episcopal church, and it is a well-known fact that some of the most disgustingly liberal institutions of "higher" learning are the nation's seminaries...of all denominations. I am speaking as an ex-seminarian. I have seen some of the most godly and ungodly of people inside the church. Thankfully the churches I have been blessed to belong to have been devoted to spiritual growth and Christian commitment. I am well aware however, that many have digressed from that path even to the point of ordaining known homosexuals, both men and women.

It varies from church to church. What I have been specifically taught is that she is to be honored but not worshipped, held in high esteem as an example but NOT an object of devotion. I have seen people in the church though that lean more to the "catholic" side of the veneration of Mary and the saints as well as having seen many that couldn't name a saint.

All of God's promises to the Jews were met in Jesus. The covenant was broken when they rejected Him. He wept for Jerusalem, but it would not accept Him. His instruction to His disciples: Wipe the dust from your feet of the cities that won't accept you in My name.
The records of the lineage were lost (except for His own) and now there is no valid claim to relationship to Abraham except through brotherhood with his Seed - Jesus Christ.

It was expected at an earlier date, but it was not till the middle ages that it became a requirement. At about the same time marriage became a sacrament of the church. For the first thousand years the Church considered it a merely civil matter.

The answer to the problem of priests misapropriating Church property for their families, is for the church to operate in poverty, like the apostles did.

In any case celibacy is a corruption of the doctrine of Christ and the Apostles by Paul, who never met him. All priests and Bishops should be required to be married, as were the disciples.

The general Protestant belief is that Mary was a virgin who conceived and bore the Son of God, and she was also a wife to Joseph afterward and bore children unto him, brothers of Jesus. Marriage to Mary was a blessing to Joseph, not a punishment.

The neighborhood I grew up in were a mix of different people .. Irish, Italian, German, Polish and different religions .. Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Episcopalian but none of us kids ever talked about

I do remember this one time .. A neighbor friend went to confession with us once .. she wasn't catholic .. I'm thinking maybe she was Episcopalian .. not sure .. but she went into the confessional ..

I know .. we were bad Catholics .. but we were kids and at the time thought it was funny .. lol
