In the case of the settlement of America the Pilgrims had a destination that was even better (potentially) than the homes they left. This is beautiful, productive, vast land - not an ocean, not a desolate moon.

You're kidding, right??

The ONLY thing the Pilgrims had to go on, were the descriptions of others who had previously made the three month journey. By 1620, it wasn't exactly guaranteed money that a ship would make it all the way here.

They left perfectly good land in Holland (at least the Mayflower Pilgrims did), for the chance to work like DOGS, and to BUILD an entirely new society based on THEIR beliefs.

And for the chance to build that society completely from scratch.

I think that took a lot of courage. Looking into the unknown is fairly safe, but to boldly venture out into it is exponentially more courageous. Separatists are not easily frightened.

Would YOU agree to be an indentured servant, in order to make it to a place where your survival was NOT guaranteed, and where your only reward would be FREEDOM??

Do you think a new settlement by this generation would survive as long as there was an option to leave if the going got tough? Would people DIE (and witness the deaths of their wives and mothers) rather than give up the dream? Will God place such a dream in our hearts? There is no instant gratification in such a movement.

I don't know about YOUR generation, but I have faith in MY abilities, and those of other Gen X-ers.

If we did it this time, we wouldn't have to learn how to fertilize crops using dead fish, and we wouldn't have to compete with an indigenous people for resources. With the technology available today, it wouldn't HAVE to be any more inconvenient than camping out, until it was better established.

The notion of 'terraforming' would come into play where extraterrestrial colonization was to be attempted. (unless you were gonna live in orbit.)

Personally, I am drawn to the idea of a floating colony, acting as a financial center, and with aquaculture as a significant revenue generating activity.

Popular Science explored that idea several years ago to some extent, and it didn't sound too outrageous to me. After establishing a floating, or underwater colony, space colonization would NOT seem too hard to undertake.

Humans need big dreams and goals.

Do people die TODAY for the defense of America and the dream that America provides, even in it's current Collectivist subverted condition??

America is reclaimable, but not until we are ready to sacrifice ourselves for future generations, just as the founders had done.

Personally, instead of scarificing us, I would rather sacrifice America's internal enemies, the Collectivists

The market as a whole is a lie (bluff, deception, renamed debt, hidden asset, tax dodge, fraud, proxy, bonus, projected earnings - all a game played by rule-bending or breaking) individual companies may be true. Show me one.

I will do no such thing. It is YOU that is making the specious claim, so YOU back it up with quantitative data.

Illegal 'accounting irregularities' at some companies do NOT make the 'whole market a lie.'

Compare the descriptions of the New World heard by the Pilgrims to the descriptions of the moon or the ocean's surface.

Holland was a cesspool of immorality, hostility and oppression (even then). Religious persecution was a reality in England, and martyrdom the fate of Europeons with faith in God as Supreme Ruler, and belief that men make petty, jealous tyrants. The emigrants were refugees in Holland. These simple, poor people - powerless with no opportunity for advancement, land ownership or self-determination had a dream that could not be realized in their Old World.

HERE is an article by Jeff Snyder concerning the governenment's fear that we will exercise our rights. the article focuses on the Ohio court's ruling regarding Ohio's virtual ban on concealed carry permits, but is instructive reading.

I have thought for a long time that we are on a fast train to tyranny - our constitutional rights are being shredded daily. Too many people don't seem to care much - they're too comfortable. I've started to give it a lot of thought, about where my line in the sand is, and what I'd do when the line is crossed. I haven't arrived at an answer yet, but I do know that our liberties have been greatly infringed. Are we OK with that as long as we have nice homes and cars, good and plentiful food, all-you-can-consume entertainment? Are we comfortable in our enslavement? Just asking...

GOOD MORNING FREEOPLES!!

So you will have no enemies? How unique.

Val, THIS AIN'T 1620!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can go out RIGHT NOW, and RENT a submarine.

If you knew more about the environment, and how to survive in it, you wouldn't be so afraid of it. :-)

Not really. It causes me considerable chafing, under the yoke of oppression.

Is that what you really believe about America? That it is defeated? It is not reclaimable? It belongs to the conqueroring liberals without a fight?

If weak nations were constantly in danger of being wiped out, just because they are weak, then there would only be about 5 nations.

Who would want to wipe out a seafaring colony located halfway to the Azores.

No, this isn't 1620 -- and freedom-loving Americans are not a tiny band of impoverished, voiceless Pilgrims.

Why not propose to form a more perfect union - and incur the jealous wrath of the world and the ingratitude of descendents?
