Here is a powerful article from a noted European leftist. However, Oriana Fallaci is one of those rare "thinking" lefties who, like Christopher Hitchens, is able to recognize hatred and evil when she sees it. Moreover, she has the courage to condemn it as well as her fellow liberals who sympathize with or support it. I suppose I'm naive but I had sincerely believed that anti-semitism existed only in small, lunatic, fringe groups. Sadly, since 9-11, I've come to realize it is alive and apparently wide-spread in Europe, a place that was once almost destroyed in part by that very bigotry and hate. Although in this piece Fallaci misses the mark a couple of times about Christians, all in all it is so very much worth the read. I can only imagine what a stir it must have caused among her enlightend, morally superior European readers and fellow journalist. On Jew-hatred in Europe

BTW, after 9-11 Fallaci wrote a long and incredibly moving piece about the attacks and of her admiration for America. I didn't run across it until some months later. It brought tears to my eyes then as now. Some of you may have read it, it's very long but it's a keeper. Anger and Pride

Val and Swervie, I too have been through the grief process after losing my parents and my favorite aunt and uncle all within a very short time. What I get annoyed with are people who have not been through this and have the gall to tell us to move on after a couple of months.

But when it comes to getting help from an outside source, I think so much depends upon the dynamics that existed in the family. It is far too complicated issue for just broad opinions. Each one is different and the reactions are different. I learned through my hospice training that there are some who get stuck in the grief process and really do need to seek help for their mental health and to be able to live their own lives again.

Have any of you watched the Jay Leno interviews of college kids? He asks very basic questions that a grade school kid should know and these college kids are so stupid it is amazing. Last night one of the questions was " Who was president during the Civil War" and the dumb girl said "Reagan?" They don't know who Churchill was, Spiro Agnew.. couldn't pronounce the name let alone know who he was..it is just disgusting. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. But what is really frightening is these kids are voting! God save us from them!

Hiya CG -- I didn't watch Leno, but that sounds about normal for the people he picks when he does those interviews. He must be idiot-selective, or edit out all the people with clues. How funny would it be if everyone said the correct answers? You gotta be dumb to get on TV, and if you're in Hollywood it's better to be on TV than to be smart.

I sent this e-mail to admissions a couple of hours ago:

From the admissions section of the school's website:
The 2001/2002 entering class averaged 37% women, 16% men, 9% minorities, and 21% international students, and fewer than 1% disabled students.

37% were women and 16% men --- shouldn't the two numbers add up to 100%?

I actually got a reply:

Thank you for letting me know. We will make a change on the website.

Good point, Val. Still I would not want to be one selected who is sooooooo stupid that I can't even tell you who Lincoln was! But you are right...if someone is smart and gets the answers, then they can't be laughed at and made fun of.

Hedy Ceegee, Aaaaw, you're sweet to ask, he's just as wonderful as ever. :) It always pleases him when you send him greetings. Actually, there's nuffin' wrong with his fingers :) he's just keeping 'em busy with fun things like fishing, boating, etc .... He's never been a fan of keyboards except as a means to an end so he's not missing it one bit. He mostly lurks or reads over a shoulder :) whenever he has a chance but it's just to keep up.

Hi Mo!! Wanna hear something sick?? I'll tell you anyway. LOL A local radio station here offered anyone who could eat a big (and it was big) bowl of worms with purple catsup - $5,000.00. Some guy did it too!! I couldn't do that even for $10,000.00 - I would barf for sure. As far as a plane accidentally flying into a building - I find that kinda farcical too. I'm sure there will be more to that story. Lynn

Darlin', I had the same visitor last week. I noticed that he could always be found in a spot of sunshine so I waited for a while, went to the place where light from a skylight hits the floor and there he was. I used a small trash bucket to cover him then slid a piece of cardboard underneath. Then it was just a matter of getting to the door and releasing him. Or you could take the Swervie approach and just fill him full of buckshot.

FOFL. Ok, I'll give the trash can method a try. I tried placing a large, opened brown bag on the floor thinking he'd perceive it as shelter but he paid no attention to it. LOL. He's harmless but I just don't want to find him in one of my shoes or worse yet in my bed. (Swerve, not one word. LOL)

Hi Lynn. Apparently it was an accident. It was a 5 passenger plane enroute from Zurich to Milan. The pilot radioed he was having mechanical problems shortly before the crash. Of course, all 5 people onborad were killed.

The Israeli military along with Mossad are doing a great job in this war. They've captured several vicious, dangerous terrorist. One of the latest efforts seems straight out of a movie 3 Palestinians killed as IDF apprehends top Hamas militant
"IDF forces apprehended Husam Badran, one of the leading members of Hamas' Nablus military wing - Iz a Din al-Kassam - Thursday, in an operation in the West Bank village of Harvat Beit Hasan, northeast of Nablus.

IDF helicopters fired two missiles at a house with Badran and others inside, killing three Palestinians. An IDF elite unit descended from a helicopter and arrested Badran, who emerged uninjured from the missile attack.

The identity of the three dead was not released, but security sources said that they are most probably Hamas activists.

Badran was involved in all of the terror attacks that were initiated by Nablus terrorists. Among them were the suicide attacks at the Dolphinarium in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem's Sbarro restaurant and the Pesach attack at Netanya's Park Hotel.
