HOWDY!! *waving*
I know how you feel - I'm now trying to play catch up.
To: gratefulwharffratt
THAT would be the route I would prefer to take. Isn't the south pacific full of uninhabited islands?? That has been tried at least three times in the last 50 years, and every time the gunboats have shown up to claim sovereignty for some punk government and impose taxes before things even got started. The reason for ships is that they can keep moving, making them very hard targets.

hehehe. Lots of talk. :)
To: Darlin'
Yes, it is and so is the Caribbean. :)
I wonder what would be involved in making a sovereign claim on one of them??

we are made of stronger, surer, righter stuff than the commies of the Great Society were. Their remnants are afraid of us now. They are losing control, and they know it - which makes them our enemies in deed and purpose. I am not talking about the few clowns in government.
There have always been 'Snopes' in America, but their incompetence made them self limiting. The 'Great Society' has given them 4 generations to breed into a hundred million useless mouths and busy sex organs. It is too late to be able to sterilize the whole bunch, they are too many. The only way is to withdraw and let the four horsemen eliminate them.

but it seems absurd that with all those perfectly marvelous mountains in the area that he chose a building. It was a copycat crime, and he wanted an audience and attention. He was worse than depressed and desperate - he was devious and vengeful.

So are half the East and West coasts. That includes NY, DC, and LA etc etc etc...
More fear??

I wonder what would be involved in making a sovereign claim on one of them?? There may be unpopulated Islands, but every one of them is the sovereign territory of some Nation. None are unclaimed.

Swwervie, I want to be on your boat, pod or whatever it's called. Okay? Then, I'll get one of my own, and we can be neighbors. :) Alls I know is, if you guys are going, I wanna go too. :)

I've checked into this. Some are for sale. But, there is always the chance that nation will want their island back, bring their army and run you off. Forget the money. Alot of people have done this, though and so far are doing okay.

Is a modern-day Caribbean micro Louisiana Purchase called for??
To: gratefulwharffratt
Neither did I, I just saw a button that was screaming to be mashed.*LOL* If you're wanting to mash my buttons, why not choose some of the more interesting ones? I was almost convinced you could do better than this.... *sigh*.... I have to keep looking for the button-masher of my dreams.

LOL.Yes, I did. :) I'm calmer now, and sort of ashamed of doing that to him. :( I knew I'd feel guilty about it, but was unable to restrain myself. :)He'll probably pout for a year. :)

Many of the ones in the Caribbean are Bahamian. Although the Bahamas are not technically in the "Caribbean". I think the Bahamas have about 700 islands and only a small percentage are inhabited. Several of them are privately owned. Paradise Island, one of the larger ones, near Nassau was once privately owned until the owner decided to develope it. Lots of cruise lines own Bahamian islands. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Atlantic, owns an island further down in the Caribbean.

I've got to go. Molly and I are off to see the world. :) Be back later. :)

Owning land belonging to some other sovereign entity is NOT what we are after.
Acreage and legally recognized sovereignty are what we need. And some meaty armaments to make sure we can continue to keep it.
