This is the chapel on Mare Island. It is a beautiful little building, it is (IIRC) around 23 Tiffany windows. I took this photo at high noon, so the lighting stinks.

Two of my cousins married men who worked at Mare Island, as did my uncle. The jobs are scarce there now. Is the place shut down completely, or does a skeleton operation still go on?

The military operations are pretty much gone, except for cleanup. The city now owns the island. They are tearing down some of the old duplex houses and apartment buildings and will be putting up stuff like condos and single-family homes. There are quite a few business out there now. There is a lumber company, a car-painting business, and others I can't recall now. Some of the smaller victorial houses are being rented out for office space. There is the med school, so the city is trying to make use of the real estate.

(Grrrr. I've been trying to post a reply but for some reason the screen kept freezing then my ISP kept timing me out and my mouse is misbehavin'. )

Very clever, Ratty. That's an enormous and ingenious plan but I'm afraid that even "W" couldn't pull that one off. :) Of course, you KNOW the Palestinians/Iraq wouldn't sign on for any portion of it and the resistance from every other Arab state would be deafening. Syria and Jordan certainly don't want the burden or responsibility of the Palestinians in their countries. Nor do any of the other Arab states, none of them like or trust each other. The only point they agree on is the annihilation of Israel.

Really ? Tony Snow said the same thing ? I missed it this morning. Was it discussed by the panel or did he propose that as his closing thoughts ?

Chemistry sets - good one... or give each a handgun with two bullets. Then leave them locked up together until they are all gone.

I had a brainy cousin that was given a chemistry set.....blew their garage up......and he wasn't Pali.....stands to reason....give them each their own super duper chemistry set...of course, while keeping them contained in their prison cells.....give them a taste of what the innocent Israeli and Arab citizens endure when they play their 'martyr' game.

I ran across two really fine articles this morning by two of the best minds in journalism, Andrew Sullivan and Mark Steyn. Both pieces were published in the London where I expect they generated quite a stir. They're well worth the time.

Andrew Sullivan: Victory for Bush in Iraq will bring peace in Israel

This war tells us more about Europe than the Middle East
"Of the 30 ongoing conflicts in the world today, the Muslims are involved in 28 of them"...

I believe that Clinton is a megalomaniac, that would explain a great deal of his behavior - me, me, me, me, I, I, I, I.

I haven't been inside it, you need to make an appointment to see the inside. They do have weddings there. Why? Do you have plans? :) It is a lovely setting, as well. It is in a grove of huge eucalyptus trees.

FOFL. Oh, Lordy. Ladies, I knew as soon as I hit the button that I'd said the wrong thing. LOL.

I'm always looking for the right little chapel fo my clients. I don't just plan their honeymoons I sometimes help them find the right location for their wedding. I recently found the dearest little chapel on the west coast of Costa Rica for a client. They were celebrating their 10th anniversary and the husband wanted to renew their vows with family and a few friends present. The chapel was surrounded by a small picket fence, it only had 10 or 12 small pews, a tiny alter and no electricity. The locals were so thrilled they whitewashed the church and collected flowers from their gardens to decorate it. It was just "darlin' " and my client was thrilled. He managed to surprise his wife totally until they got to Costa Rica where we had arranged a shopping excursion for her and their young daughters to be fitted in Local "wedding" dresses.

No visits that I know of, Mo. If you don't hear from me, assume the worst, bring honey, bear tranquilizer, a rope and a plunger. I'm depending on you.
