it is rare for hubbys to rub against your leg and purr while you are at 'puter
and even more rarely do they do it every day at 5PM

ok I give up, what is a smolt machine

Smolt are the tiny salmon heading down river on their way to the sea. There is this contraption on a small barge moored in the river. It is a cylinder about 3 ft in diameter with a cone on the downstream end, made out of perforated metal. There are fins inside, which make it revolve and also move the smolt to the small end of the cone, where they are dumped into a tank. I have no idea why the State does this...The lower part of the cylinder is down in the water, by the way, and the whole thing is powered by the flow of water...I hope this gives you all a mental picture of the contraption...lol...Ain't knowledge wonderful.....

My idea is they check the smolt for desease and/or deformities. Get an idea how good the hatching was. But I don't know that for sure....
