The average journalist has nearly zero connection to the real world.
A British pie shop owner, Paul Bowen, was interviewed on Good Morning Britain on Thursday after a new minimum wage law was announced.
The clip was something else:
Utterly heartbreaking.
A must watch. https://t.co/K4W2sxKG4w— Mario Creatura (@MarioCreatura) October 29, 2026
Me, as a family, as a director, I'm taking a 2% cut. So my family, my one year old girl, I'm taking a pay cut, the business is taking a pay cut. How - how - how is that breathing room? Where is my breathing space? John Healey, if you're listening, where is my breathing space? You promised me.
The libs hosting the show had absolutely no clue.
But they do now!

They're both stunned. They never expected to hear that number.
Prices are going up, sales are going down, and this guy is likely going to have to go out of business.
Some reactions:
@MarioCreatura "Just fire your loyal staff and hire teenagers every few years."
God, the tone-deaf news in Britain just doesn't get it.— John (@RealJohnShoe) October 29, 2026

@MarioCreatura "you could just hire and under 21 person"
The smug F U attitude in that follow up.
Ya go fire the older folks with families and bills and take up the teenager. They are widely known to have incredible working habits— Max Malts (@MaltstotheMax) October 29, 2026

@GMB This is what happens when the vast majority of Labour MPs have never even had a real job, let alone run a business— James Blackwell (@jwblackwell) October 29, 2026

Of course, the socialists in the comments are attacking the shop owner. Cockroaches love to make fun of men who actually try to build something.
But if the British government keeps going this route, cockroaches are all they'll have left.
A +
Call them trans pies or sharia pies.
There’s a picture of the pies about 20% down the Daily Mail page.
They look to be about five inches in diameter.
“Mr Bowen has spoken before about how the National Insurance costs forced him to close one pie shop”
Simple Simon met a pieman,
Going to the fair;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Let me taste your ware.
Said the pieman to Simple Simon,
Show me first your penny;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Sir I haven't any.
It'll be falafel carts soon so he best be getting with the program.

How would that help, he would still have to pay them minimum wage.
The EU and UK put so much overhead on business the increase in minimum wages is going to be ruinous
A pie shop owner explains Britain’s new minimum wage will
cause him to have to sell 20.000-30,000 extra pies a week.
————————
But he won’t be able to sell 20,000-30,000 more pies a week because everyone else is going to get squeezed the same as he is
They will have to rise prices but that is not going to cover the difference unless the price increase is steep
We are seeing the play out in the US with our minimum wage hikes
Companies like Wendy’s fast food are being forced into bankruptcy while stronger companies like McDonalds are rushing automation into service to cut staffing
Even McDonalds is hard pressed and has hiked prices by 100% on some items
Similar. A friend dropped out of Finance, got a "D" in Accounting. Graduated with a BS in Human Resources. Should have learned to weld, but it was "beneath" him.
Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop, in Fleet Street, still sells excellent pies, at reasonable prices.
Mrs. Lovett’s Pies are people!
.......he just needs to increase the sales price of pies
and pass the labor increase on to his customers......
I thought they became teachers and politicians.
Yes, I believe those are the ones who flunked out of Journalism school.
To most leftist journalists ‘economics’ is just a word. I suppose that they think that if you can afford to open your doors for sales, you can afford to pay whatever wages and taxes the gubmint dictates. Assets and liabilities, debits and credits, income and expenses ... they know literally nothing about how all these interact and how these determine a businesses success or failure.
A kid selling lemonade from his front lawn has a better understanding of economics.
YUM
Degrees in “Journalism” & “Education” are absolutely worthless.
A degree in English Literature would be a better foundation for those “professions”.
