Liberal Americans who fled to Europe after President Donald Trump's re-election shared how the grass is not always greener on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Wired Magazine released an article Thursday headlined "They Fled Trump’s America. Now They Regret It," speaking directly to those who sought "political refuge in the wake of Trump’s second term," but have since voiced frustration with Europe’s lower quality of life, the rise of right-wing politics in those countries, and a newfound appreciation for the cultural norms and niceties of American life.
One account, from a woman nicknamed "Annie," said she was sold the idea of an idyllic U.K. life on social media, "But the reality of life in the U.K. was dramatically different to what she’d imagined."
"There are huge misconceptions about access to quality healthcare, standard of living… the quality of life is significantly lower than in the U.S.," she told the magazine, citing challenges ranging from their healthcare system to a significantly lower disposable income. "Things in the U.K. that are considered luxury items are very common" in America, like a dishwasher and dryer, she told Wired.
Annie told the outlet that despite believing she'd have free healthcare under the NHS, she now pays "huge amounts of taxes and an immigration surcharge" to access the national healthcare services.
"So no, the health care is not free here," she said.

When the Americans who were part of the cast for the British TV series Space:1999 (Martin Landau and wife Barbara Bain) talked about missing America, Landau noted “The hot dogs over here are all gray.”
Is there another country in the world with a constitution and bill of rights like ours? No!
Please have the boo hoo girl at the ready for the day after the midterms for the Dems and Socialists to see. While we celebrate, God willing.
“ They “seem” to enjoy life more than Americans and I prefer their cafe/restaurant scene.”
I can picture how Lisbon cafes and small restaurants help me enjoy my life. Fishing villages also.
The only time I felt relatively comfortable in a foreign land was as a soldier!
Moving to Europe does not mean one loses citizenship.
Have an acquaintance who has been there 35 years. She collects ss and is on Medicare. Has all her surgeries done in US on our dime. Has an American address at her sister’s.
None of them do. Emigration does not mean losing or giving up citizenship
“Rosie O’Dungheap is back and so is Smellen DeGenerate.”
Really? They’re both back here? Why did we let them back in?
What I love is how we wave people through in traffic and how the people we wave through, wave back.
What I love is how we wave people through in traffic and how the people we wave through, wave back.
They can come back whether you like it or not.
I heard the same many times (podcasts mostly) the last couple of years that mainly blue states continue to hemorrhage red voters increasing the net number in red states.
What makes this even better with the census coming up, a blue state loses an electoral vote to a red state for a net difference of two in the Electoral College. Hopefully this will translate to less RINOs too.
The courts are rendering them meaningless.
You.Can.Not.Return.
She’s part of the problem.
Yeah but, I can lean on them as justification for the employment of alternative means to secure my liberty!
I don’t enjoy saying this, but her sister is also part of the problem.
She inherited the house too. She has a right to it as an dual citizen.
revoke their passports
When they return to the U.S, which they inevitably will do, they will still “vote blue, no matter who.”
There is no fixing stupid.
