Makes me nostalgic for the 40’s and 50’s when I was in school. I can still feel the yanked ear, ruler on the knuckles, etc. BUT to this day I still say yes ma’am and yss sir!

Not enough evidence to judge this case.

But the biggest issue in public schools is lack of discipline.

My Dad recalled one of his teachers in high school slamming a disobedient classmate up against the wall. Afterward, the kid was happily bragging about what happened.

Back in the long-ago days when a teacher would paddle a student, then a concerned parent would ask why he did that, the teacher would explain why, then the parent would pick up where the teacher left off!

Both high schools I attended had a vice principal with a board of education.

My biology teacher cold caulked a student who smarted off to him. From that day on he was respectful

Guess another generation we can write off. Taken by the arm! How cruel, oh the abuse? Guess teacher should have allowed the student to disrupt the class! No reason others should learn when one student is disruptive, let the trouble maker disturb the classroom.

We had a 7th Grade Geography teacher who loved to make us write sentences and boy, were our arms tired! If one of us got in over our head and had an impossible deadline to submit "I will behave in the classroom at all times" 5,000 times by the next day, we'd copy that guy's handwriting and help him out but the teacher was hip to our racket from the start.

After awhile it got so bad that he began handing out grades of zero for the day, even if we had turned in our homework on time.

We had our ways for dealing with him and he had his way for dealing with us. When he assigned 10,000 sentences (due the following day) to one of us, we went to war against him but only he had the power to 'nuke' any one of us at any time.

The four of us who gave him the most trouble failed the class but none of us were held back, so we saw it as having won that battle and 8th Grade was even better.

Why were the kids slammed up against the lockers? My guess is most deserved it. Had a HS teacher do the same to me. I could have easily kicked his azz but I actually liked the guy and when he did that it caught me off guard.

The conversation that followed I understood why. I deserved it. Always remembered that and always respected that teacher.

“It would be great if the school stuck up for the teacher, but they won’t.”

It would be great if the kid’s parents also stuck up for the teacher to reinforce discipline, but they (probably) won’t. That’s what would’ve happened “back when”.

“the parent would pick up where the teacher left off!”

Exactly. I heard stories, although never experienced it myself, being “Little Goody Two-Shoes” - LOL!. There was that one time when I took my crutch and whaled on Bruce, the class bully, but I didn’t get into trouble for that. He deserved it, and everyone knew it.

So, the alternative is “please little Johnny come outside”... when that doesn’t work after several attempts the principal comes in and says the same thing. When that doesn’t work, they call the police and they ask once then you are dragged out, what is the difference besides demonstrating to students that teachers have no authority?

Seems funny that we had less problems in schools when teachers could escalate to the level of the poor student.
