A Bronx judge found a mother of two suffering from postpartum psychosis not guilty of killing her young children in 2022 — while jurors in Massachusetts are in the middle of deliberating a similar fate for Lindsay Clancy.
Dimone Fleming, 26, was found not responsible by mental disease or defect in court on Monday for the deaths of her two children, 3-year-old Daishawn Fleming and 11-month-old Octavius Canada, at a Bronx family shelter, the New York Times reported.
On the night of the gruesome killings, Fleming was “grossly psychotic and out of touch with reality,” according to psychiatrist Dr. Eric Goldsmith.
Goldsmith, who evaluated Fleming at the request of the prosecution, said she was hallucinating, convinced that the world was coming to an end and believed a spirit had invaded her body.
Similarly, “Ms. Fleming believed her actions were necessary to protect or ‘cleanse’ her children,” according to a forensic psychiatrist report written by doctors hired by the defense.
Before the killings, Fleming had been treated at a Queens hospital for two months, where she was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and prescribed psychotropic medication, the Times reported, citing court records.
But the mother of two did not take her medication as prescribed and instead used marijuana daily — which reportedly exacerbated her mental health symptoms.
Mental examinations ordered by both the prosecution and defense determined Fleming was in a state of psychosis at the time of the bloody killings.

I had the misfortune of watching the Clancy closing arguments as it was playing on one of the TVs where I was. It was like watching a train wreck; you could not divert your attention. The defense attorney’s closing argument was incoherent, all over the map. If I was on the jury, I would need to see it in writing to make any sense of it. OTOH, the ADA giving the prosecution’s argument laid the whole crime out, dealt with the meds issue, and I would vote guilty of 1st degree murder in a heartbeat. PPD is only an excuse for her, but 6 women on the jury could be a problem if they ignore the instructions to not let personal feelings enter into the verdict. Why the jury is still deliberating is likely they are deciding on the mental impairment escape clause.
If you can find the ADA’s argument, read it! It could be the basis on a law school course in how to close. And it will help you understand how depraved was this triple murder.
As a separate question, if a defense attorney is convinced the client is toast, would they purposefully tank the defense to open the ineffective counsel appeal?
Doesn’t matter to me, personally. Just keep her locked up away from society so she is no longer a threat to others.

So.. what? Now, people on meds for any kind of mental issue... bi-polar, depression, schizophrenia, etc., can be judged “not guilty” for murder in this Bizarro World era of insanity? Isn’t that going to just encourage more mentally ill people to do whatever their emotions tell them to do whenever they please?

In my opinion, the dangers of cannabis have generally been systematically played down in recent decades. I wish that people realized at last the dangers of the use of cannabis. Persons with mental health issues are especially vulnerable.

Women have the legal right to kill babies about to be born, so it not surprising they also feel age is just a number and they can kill young children also. They probably believe they can kill you and me, its all the same.

This is just an extension of abortion. Aborting up to the point of birth is no longer enough. They want to be able to abort after the kids are born because they “changed their mind” about being a parent or deciding that it is too much of a responsibility.
