President Trump floated the possibility of rebranding Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” in a shot across the bow against Canada’s most populous province — whose premier threatened to cut off electricity and minerals to the US.
“The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer,” Trump declared on Truth Social Tuesday.
On his very first day back in the Oval Office last year, Trump signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, a move he frequently boasted about during his first year.
His musing about giving Lake Ontario, which borders upstate New York, the same treatment comes amid a bruising tariff battle with America’s northern neighbor.
Last week, talks broke down between the two sides.
That prompted Trump to impose a steep 50% tariff on a range of Canadian goods — including beer, cheese, electronics, and more.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has vowed to retaliate in kind, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who has long been a hardliner on trade, teased plans to make the US feel economic pain.
Ford vowed to the Associated Press that “everything is on the table” if the trade spat worsens, including cutting off electricity and critical minerals from Ontario.
“We power 1.5 million homes and businesses,” the premier said. “Everything’s on the table. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

This is both petty and absurd on Trump's part not to mention immature. It's like the whole Gulf of America thing. I and most other people, will always call it Gulf of Mexico just like I and most others will always call it Lake Ontario.

Since his early days Trump has written that makes are a powerful negotiation tool. This is why if he likes a product, it’s going to get his name on it. In gold letters.

If the “we’re Americans too” people (read: everyone else in the hemisphere) really felt secure in their sentiment, they would rejoice. Instead of naming the lake after 40% of Canadians, he’s naming it after all of them.

Absolutely....There is no boundary running through the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. Historically...It should be the Gulf of Mexico...and should not have been changed.
PM Carney has major investments in the US and the company he’s connected to Brook-field probably has the same and making a mint from what Trump is doing and with Carney destroying Canada he’s probably making money off that as well so Trump should Freeze their stuff ,LOL

And by the way, Canada has been a horrible neighbor for a long time.
1) They take advantage of our proximity and don’t spend a dime on national defense.
2) They conspire with the CCP to bypass tariffs by repackaging Chinese made goods and selling them to us as Canadian made.
3) They slap punitive tariffs on anything we export to them and then cry like babies when we reciprocate.
It is stupid what they are doing - we hod all the cards. If they keep it up they are going to commit economic suicide. Trump is right to ridicule their leadership - they deserve every bit of it.
Maybe the Canadian people will elect better leaders.
