2. No one gets too worked up about football: Finally, people who act sensible about teenage kids playing a silly game.

3. Home of the famous Aflac commercial actor Nick Saban: He's so great talking to that duck.

4. Never have to walk more than 17 steps to get to a Waffle House: A little taste of what Heaven must be like.

5. Can lose 53 pounds from sweat just sitting there: Where else can you drop three pant sizes without leaving your front porch?

6. Always just one glass of tea away from experiencing the joy of diabetes: Sweet.

7. Never have to think of what to say for a eulogy: "Roll Tide" or "War Eagle" will suffice.

8. There are more guns than there are people: As the Lord intended.

9. People there haven't lynched anyone recently: Way to go, Alabama.

My first encounter with Huddle House was in deep western Virginia--VERY close to West Virginia. The type of place where you don't leave the main road.

I lived there about a year. Good people, but "Justified" was pretty accurate.

I know it was in KY. The town in Virginia I was in was about 20 minutes from KY. And that's if you are not in a hurry.

Those hollers portrayed in Justified were in KY, VA, and WV.

No, I wasn't aware of the Columbus team's victory.

A bit of trivia: Brian Sipe, the quarterback for the Cleveland Bronws (NFL MVP for 1980) was on the Little League team from El Cajon, California, which won in 1961.

I think the team this year from Bonita, California (a few miles from El Cajon), has been eliminated.

Phenix City is less than a tenth the size of Columbus, so that is impressive. It is not exactly Park Place, either. However, there was a surprisingly good Italian restaurant there.

Well heck, I just read that none of the filming was in Kentucky, Virginia, or West Virginia! My Dad was born in Kentucky, and DH and I are Elmore Leonard fans, so Justified was always a treat.

Our family knew the Sipes. My brother played football with him at Our Lady of Grace in grade school, I am told. (As the baby in the family, I have no memory of this myself.)

We also have over 200 miles of the Tennessee river, including lake Guntersville, Wheeling , Wilson and Pickwick.Last month I made a Boat trip down the river to Kentucky lake, 3oo miles one way @ 6 miles an hour. One of the most memorable trips ever, 600 round trip miles in a shanty boat.

My daughter lives in Montgomery AL. It has its pluses and minuses. We do enjoy the grounds of the Shakespeare Festival as a pretty place to walk around.
If we lived in Alabama, we would prefer Huntsville. It’s better for science nerds.
And we like the “mountains”.
We have generally enjoyed visiting Alabama, and I wish more people would give the South a try.

There used to be a Huddle House near us, right off of I-40 near Kingston, TN.

It closed over 10 years ago and just sits there empty. A great location for any business. Can’t understand why some business hasn’t grabbed it.

There is an Awful House near the Knoxville Airport.
