A bitter battle has erupted over one of California’s wealthiest enclaves, with activists from neighboring Oakland calling for the predominantly white city of Piedmont to be “canceled.”
Oakland resident Jesse Rosemoore is behind the provocative “Cancel Piedmont” campaign targeting the 1.7-square-mile city of roughly 11,000 people that is surrounded by Oakland but maintains its own schools, police, parks and tax base, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Rosemoore, 44, began handing out “CANCEL PIEDMONT” stickers and selling $10 T-shirts bearing the slogan 14 months ago.
The professional transit planner now regards the campaign as a way to tackle the sharp racial and economic divide between Piedmont and the rest of the city.
“It really is ridiculous that a place like Piedmont even exists,” Rosemoore told the outlet. “I felt like someone needed to bring even more attention to it, because what’s going on there says a lot about our society as a whole.”
The median price of homes in Piedmont is almost $2.6 million, which is more than three-and-a-half times that of Oakland’s.
Census data cited by the outlet shows Piedmont is roughly 70% white and around 1% black, while about one in five Oakland residents is black.
In some places, the divide comes down to a property line, with neighboring households potentially having access to different school districts and police departments depending on which side of the Piedmont-Oakland boundary they fall on.

Just why should that be, Mr. Rosemoore? Is it perhaps because of the race of the good people of Piedmont? But race is just a social construct, anyway - Right, Mr. Rosemoore?
"I felt like someone needed to bring even more attention to it, because what's going on there says a lot about our society as a whole."
Just what is "going on there," Mr. Rosemoore? Are free people choosing to live where they want to, and to govern themselves?
I could see how a racist Marxist like yourself might not like that, Mr. Rosemoore.
Regards,
Yup. See what I mean?
I’d be nervous if I lived in Piedmont. The BS being spewed by Dems/Piker now is physically harm others with money.
Ferals eating Librats. How sad. Pardon me if I don’t care.
Lazy, low IQ, envious, mad at the world, can’t stand to see people who have it together. This will happen: Oakland, and all that goes with it, will expand until it consumes Piedmont and destroys it. This will happen everywhere unless some “tough love” is applied.
A 1.7 square mile city? That’s a neighborhood, not a city.
he looks retarded. my very Socialist nephew also has a degree in Urban Planning, what a coinky-dink.
“Piedmont is a small city in Alameda County, California, United States, enclaved by the city of Oakland. Its residential population was 11,270 at the 2020 census.[8] The name comes from the region of Piedmont in Italy, and it means ‘foothill’. Piedmont was incorporated in 1907, and was developed significantly in the 1920s and 1930s.”

I’ve heard it is closer to 50% for the state.
A campaign is hereby begun to cancel Jesse Rosemoore.
If he is obliterated, the problem he has created will just poof..... disappear
I think they have their own police abd school system. It is a small area, maybe they seceded from Oakland.
Good time for some other Oakland neighborhoods to secede.
Most Urban Planners, and every local govt has them, are very left wing, even Marxist.
If the people of Piedmont start parking their car on the lawn they could fit in.
Yeah, and Beverly Hills is expensive for a reason.
Face the problem that exists instead of making an excuse for it.
11,000 people in 1.7 miles? That just doesn’t sound right. I’m assuming those are huge lots.
