What's the view on 'MAGA 2.0'?
FR ^ | Aug 9 | RF

Posted on 08/09/2026 2:45:45 AM PDT by RandFan

Reading FR then flicking to Twitter/X is sometimes like night and day. There's a lot of dissent there among those I happen to follow (NOT Lefitsts or anything like that) regarding: Israel, Iran War, foreign policy and the Administration generally.

A lot of hot topics that get discussed here all the time and former Representatives or officials are leading the charge: MTG, Kent, Tucker Carlson and Massie the most prominent with many large accounts echoing them.

It's clear to me this is more than just a few rebels who have no influence or standing in fact MTG says in one of her latest posts: "The Movement has begun".

She is referring to 'MAGA 2.0' and a split from the Trump admin who they accuse of breaking promises of no more foreign wars and for their handling of the Epstein saga.

This has implications I think for Vance or anyone else in the administration who might want to run for president in future.

This is just an observation. I'm no troll but feel hesitant to post (or re-post) some of their stuff because it might attract complaints.

Sometimes I feel like walking on egg shells especially with foreign policy posts which I think is the main fissure in play and where some of us naturally agree with them on.

Are Twitter/X ahead of the curve or out of order?

Where have you been? Mars? Vance is best friends with Tucker Carlson. He has Tucker’s son working for him until recently.

That make any sense?

Yes. Many political movements catalyze as the result of a written work or a gifted writer coming along at the right time, and others pick up the mantle to run for office: Uncle Tom's Cabin, Das Kapital, The Social Contract, Witness, The Conservative Mind, On the Origin of Species, etc.

Trump is not a Philospher King. He has amazing instincts, gumption, self-confidence, intelligence, love of country, lack of true malice, but he is not someone who maps out the deep underpinnings ofthe universe.

Outside of maybe Angelo Codevilla, who came to prominence at around the same time, you really don't have the "intellectual underpinnings" for MAGA/Trumpism. They had to be reverse engineered. I think Victor Davis Hanson comes close to succeeding on the whole spectrum.

If MAGA means whatever Trump decides it means on any given day, even if it’s 180 degrees from what he said the day before, then you don’t have a set of principles. You have a cult of personality. OG MAGA was based on a set of promises. MAGA 2.0 means whatever you want it to mean, which is the same as “Queer”.

How does this fit into your ‘fracturing MAGA’ narrative?

GengisK: "Trump is in his last term.
Plan and act accordingly.
Go ahead, alienate the others."

As Mark Twain might say it: rumors of Trump's death are greatly exaggerated.

He ain't dead yet, he's got 2-1/2 years left to serve.
Don't try to bury him while the corpse is still kicking.

Yes, there are lunatics allegedly "on the right", though I'd question even that, former Trump supporters now just unhinged and in the pay of foreign powers.
If we bow down to these SOBs, we'll end up just like Democrats -- pulled around through the rings on their noses by Democratic Socialists of America.

No, we don't coddle them.
We force them to come to their senses if they want a seat at the Big Tent Republican table -- first cut the crap.

If they want to run a candidate in the 2028 primaries, good for them, let's see how they do.
I would expect maybe 20% total for anti-Trump candidates, but those include the likes Mike Pense and Nicky Haley.
The Lunatic candidate will get 5% max.

Do we really need them in the 2028 general?
Who will Democrats run -- Kamala? Gavin? AOC? Abdul??

Naw, I don't see it.

Tell the lunatics to F(art) Off

lodi90: "Get your facts straight: Trump borrowed “MAGA” from Reagan.
Conservatism has always been about policy and agenda.
Not Dear Leader populism."

Ronald Reagan's campaign themes in 1980 included:

  1. The economy: "Are you better off than you were four years ago?"

  2. Carter's weakness: "The Time Is Now for Strong Leadership."

  3. Foreign Policy: "Peace Through Strength"

  4. Reduce Big Government: "Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem."

  5. General uplift: "Let's Make America Great Again"
MAGA was not the central theme of Reagan's 1980 campaign and was dropped in 1982, 1984 and 1986.

In 1984, Reagan's campaign themes were:

  1. "Morning in America"

  2. "Bringing America Back"

  3. "Prouder, Stronger, and Better"
Unlike Pres. Trump, Reagan's "Let's Make America Great Again" was not his central theme and unifying idea, it was an afterthought used as nice words on campaign buttons.
And it was quickly dropped and forgotten after the 1980 campaign.

By stark contrast, MAGA is Trump's major theme and purpose, carried forward through three presidential elections and their mid-terms over the past 10+ years.
It was not just one & done, it's been his slogan and focus from Day One.

So, MAGA absolutely belongs to Pres. Trump -- it's his to define and to accomplish.
Any future candidates & administrations claiming the MAGA mantle will be judged by how closely they follow Trump's definitions of what MAGA is & should be.

Yes, of course, if you wish to claim that MAGA is not truly conservative according to your definition of "conservative", that's an argument you can make -- you can easily claim, "we are the true conservatives" (if indeed you really are), but you cannot claim "we are the true MAGA", because that term belongs to Donald Trump -- it's his to define and to bestow on loyal supporters.

If you're not one, then you need your own slogan, it's can't be MAGA.

In my view, Pres. Trump has been 100% consistent, especially when viewed through the lens of "The Art of the Deal".

If you want to debate that, we can, but in the meantime, I'm simply pointing out that loyalty to the president and to his MAGA agenda is not a "cult of personality", it is a political necessity to get anything of value accomplished.

So, if you say, "oh, I support this but don't support that, and I don't like the way Trump tweets" (or "truths") -- no, that's the recipe for failure and disaster.
The only chance we have of success is a united front under Trump's leadership.

Yes, we'll have plenty of opportunity to pick Trump's successor in 2028, and anyone who claims to be "More MAGA than Trump" can make their case to the voters and we'll see how people respond.

In the meantime, we only have one president and MAGA is his to define and accomplish.
So we're either with him, or we're not, and if not now, then we can't claim to be "more MAGA that Trump" in 2028.

As I said, Trump is a speed bump along the road to civilization collapse. The widespread
lunacy of the left will know no bounds; and, they still control the public indoctrination
centers.

Sadly, I fear you may be right.
Under Pres. Trump, not every trend is still in the wrong direction, but enough are to be genuinely scary.
As Reagan said,

2028 is still a lifetime away, and we don't yet know who will emerge as the strongest candidate to carry the Republican-MAGA-conservative torch.

Yeah, Trump is great. Its about half of the American people who really worry me. Just the fact that someone like Kamala can even get on the ballot and then win so many votes is terrifying. I think this Nation must divide or completely fall.
