"If you have a second home in New York City worth more than $5 million, check your mailbox when you’re back in the five boroughs — because you've got mail," Mamdani posted on X, touting the tax on specific second properties introduced by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul that he supported going into effect soon.
"Today, we sent notification letters to property owners, letting them know that our new pied-à-terre tax is coming soon," Mamdani continued. "The best city in the world deserves the best parks, libraries, and schools in the world. That's only possible when we all pay our fair share. "
As of Friday morning, Mamdani’s post had been viewed over 10 million times and conservatives on social media blasted the mayor and warned that the exodus of wealthy New Yorkers will only continue under this new plan.

As usual, you’re wrong. New York Local Law 18 only applies to rentals for less than 30 days. Any property rented over 30 days but less than 12 months would be subject to the tax.
Not sure I follow you. NY would tax them from leaving, and you’d want congress to have Florida tax them again for arriving? That would never happen and at this point with so many people moving to Florida (I hate it and with it was like it was 35 years ago when I first moved to Florida), I wouldn’t mind some deterrent for moving here, as we’re being inundated with liberals leaving their infested hellholes and bringing in their voting habits here.

By the way, here are a few apartments and even at least one house available for less than 30 day rental on Airbnb. They’re quite a few more if you care to look.

I’m thinking the owners of these properties already pay the regular property tax levy on these properties.
Then, because they are valued over $5 million, a second tax is being levied.
Is this legal? Could be an interesting lawsuit, since they are seeing their property taxed differently than other properties.
I guess I see why they don’t need police in these commie cities, when you take everything away from everyone, what is left to steal?
The real liberals who own the second homes in New York are not complaining. Only conservatives are.

The Commie Mayor wants some rich property-owners to flee the City to open up some fancy RE to house the ever-growing crowd of indigents that need a place to sleep at night.
Mamdani and his "social engineers" plan on cashing-in when the wealthy property-owners send in their checks--and plan on becoming socialist super-heroes when they open the seized opulent property to the ragged mass of homeless.
We are watching the Marxian "redistribution of property" taking place before our very eyes.
