Friday marks as sad milestone.

It was 30 years ago that TWA Flight 800 exploded in midair off of Long Island minutes after taking off from John F. Kennedy International Airport en route to Paris

If I’m not mistaken the NTSB report said the plane continued to climb another 4,000 feet after the plane was blown apart. Another 4k feet? I’m not an aviator nor an aeronautical physicist but logically, that sounds impossible.

I have liked all of DeMille’s books. Including his very first “Plum Island”.

I really enjoyed the two with the NY lawyer living next door to the mafia boss: “The Gate House” and the follow up book too.

Some of the ones like the “Lions of Lucerne” were entertaining, but not great.

I know what the police/NTSB evidence said. I also know that Clinton was running for re election. I remember all the discussion we had here on FR at the time. Which is why I discounted the US Navy accidental shooting theory. Mostly because some squid would have eventually blabbed.

The theory that it was a MAN PAD launched from a small boat off the NJ shore is much more plausible. Especially since an EL AL flight was scheduled to be in that take off position from JFK and got switched at the last minute.

In addition the voltage of the electrical system of the aircraft is designed not to be able to ignite fuel. Jet fuel does not blow up like gasoline. It has to be under pressure to ignite. Similar to diesel.

The Clinton administration did not want to go to war in the Middle East. Just like Bush and Reagan prior to them. However, after Beirut, the US Cole, Kohbar Towers, the Kenyan Embassy and other terrorist acts it would have put the whole Israeli/PLO Peace process in jeopardy. Clinton would have been forced to act. It also potentially cost him the election. Unlikely, but could have.

I didn't see anything regarding the sensors themselves. I am sure the sensor system on flight TWA800 were intrinsically safe. People have known how to do that for a very long time.
