A new report says health officials are investigating Taco Bell as a potential part of the cyclosporiasis outbreak that’s sickened thousands of people across the U.S., with many suffering from extreme diarrhea.
The Washington Post cites two anonymous sources close to the investigation, which is said to involve both federal and state health officials.
Taco Bell has reportedly removed lettuce, cilantro, pico de gallo and guacamole from its menu in some areas as a precaution.
Michigan’s health department has pointed to lettuce or other salad greens as a potential source of the outbreak, but said some people infected with the parasite did not eat at Taco Bell.
The CDC has not yet confirmed if a specific food item is the source of the outbreak.
Nearly 7,000 cases of cyclosporiasis, a gastrointestinal illness that can cause extreme diarrhea, have been confirmed by health officials across more than half of U.S. states.
The illness is caused by the Cyclospora parasite, which enters the body through contaminated produce, the CDC says.
If ingested, you may experience weeks of watery diarrhea, as well as “frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements,” the CDC reports.

That’s not a bug it’s a feature of taco bell.
I appear to have had this, many times, then.
That’s no way to win The Franchise Wars.
I am just ok with Chipotle every so often, but I wont go near a Taco Bell anymore (for decades now, much like Mcdonalds). Those places are just plain scary.
isn’t that just eating at Taco Bell?
Too many third world people touching , cooking and serving food
One Mexican takes a dump in a lettuce field and all hell breaks loose.
isn’t that just eating at Taco Bell?
~~~
Depends how many tacos you get.
If I have one or two, I’m fine. 3-4 tacos and I know I’ve been there the next day.
I haven’t pushed the envelope past 4. LOL
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say cyclospora is much worse both in duration and intensity.
LOL!
This may just be the best method DHS ever concocted to finally rid America of the 80 million illegals infesting our states, cities, and counties. Those people will eat anything from anywhere. As long as it’s free.
There is no germ that could possibly survive a week in a pot of Red Slime.
I haven’t been to a Taco Bell and I haven’t had the disease.
What do I make of that?
I love the cinnamon twists that Taco Bell has. I could eat those all day long. Anything else from there, not so much.
“frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements,”
Every journalist in the world secretly hopes to write those words someday...and have them published lol
No sh!t lol
I have never had a problem with Taco Bell or Chipotle; but I’ve had something the last few days that makes me think I may have picked up the cyclo-bug...I have no idea where I would have gotten it.
There was a chain named Chi-Chi’s here 30 years ago. Some people died and it went out if business. I think it was blamed on the salsa.
My stepdaughter from Japan wanted to try Taco Bells.
I said... “Why?”
She persisted.
So we tried it for her sake.
Once was enough.
