A European professional basketball player was fatally shot and two people wounded when gunfire erupted Friday night at a packed Harlem basketball tournament, cops and witnesses said.
Kinu Rochford, a standout at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, was struck twice in the head at around 10:30 p.m. at the Kingdome Basketball Tournament in the Martin Luther King Jr. Towers on Lenox Avenue, police said.
Rochford, 35, who was playing in the tournament, was shot while watching between games, according to cops.
Witnesses said Rochford was struck the second time when he was already on the ground bleeding. Cops have not confirmed that.
Emergency responders gave CPR to Rochford, who lived in Crown Heights, and rushed him to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved, cops said.
The two injured — a 28-year-old man was shot in the shin and a 22-year-old woman was shot in the right forearm — were among the estimated 500 in the crowd watching the tournament between West 112th Street and West 115th Street.

Malcolm X Daycare Center, lol?
Sort of like people in LA signalling a lane change by firing a couple of rounds across your hood.
Yeah there’s another one LOL..here in LA we used to have Rodeo Road(Its where Target is now, La Cienaga Blvd/Rodeo Road) back in the day its where Pic N Save used to be) now its Obama Blvd instead of Rodeo Road, whenever I pass by it I give it the finger LOL
If he was shot twice, there is a motive.
“Martin Luther King Jr. Towers” ... i think i see the problem ...
There’s never a social worker around when you need one.
This killing is news? Just another black on black murder that happens every single day in this country. No screaming from Al Sharpton or the rest of the race hustlers, no rush of media to the site, no demands for statues to come down, nothing. Why? There is no money or power to be gained when blacks kill anyone so there is only dead silence.
Bassetball jones!............
I agree that we need to get beyond 'ghetto culture', but I don't think it has anything to do with 'acting white'. It has to do with WANTING to be part of society in the nation in which you live. It has to do with appreciating the sacred nature of life and belief that all people are important. It has to do with the realization that life is a gift - and that none of us have the right to take that gift away from anyone else.
We live in a world in which many people have lost or never developed the awe of life. A world in which attempted genocide has occurred at least 9 times since the beginning of the 20th century, and in which we are descending into a another period of hatred for the people who were the focus of the Holocaust. A period during which Christians are being persecuted. A period in which everything we've built and all the spiritual gains we've made are at risk.
This is about whether we tolerate a regression of humanity into something much worse than the best we've been - irrespective of color, heritage, or anything else. It's really depressing, and I feel thankful sometimes that I'm on the downhill side of an expected lifespan.
To me, there's a clue there. We'll see if Mamdani blocks an investigation.
that’s the 1978 World Champion BALTIMORE BULLETS. Wes Unseld, and Earl the Pearl are rolling in their graves. :)
Don't be hanging around outside MLK Towers after 9 PM. Basketball tournament or no.
In 1978 they were already playing at the old Capitol Center in Lanham, Maryland and Earl Monroe had left for the Knicks years earlier. BTW, that remains the Bullets /. Wizards sole NBA championship.
lol. and your point is?
