Ryan Reynolds' decision to open new gin bar and distillery in crime-ridden Portland ends in disaster

A gin brand co-owned by Ryan Reynolds in Portland has closed a bar just four years after it opened.

Aviation American Gin's Tasting Room and Visitor Center held its last tasting on June 28.

'Thank you for all the memories, Portland. Stay weird,' a sign hung on the door read, according to Willamette Week.

The bar was opened in 2022 to promote Reynolds's gin brand. The actor once called the tasting room a 'Disneyland for adults.'

The closure comes amid a sales slump for Diageo, the drinks giant that co-owns the brand with Reynolds.

The London-based beverage giant was down by 15.4 percent in spirit sales between January and March of this year in the US alone, according to The Spirits Business.

'After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close the Aviation American Gin Visitor Center in Portland, Oregon,' a spokesman for Diageo said.

'This decision reflects evolving business needs, as we continue to support growth ambitions for our Aviation American Gin brand.'

'Aviation American Gin remains an important part of Diageo's portfolio and we are committed to the brand, our customers and consumers.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to Diageo for comment.

Production has been moved to an existing facility outside Portland, said a spokesman.

The decision to move production comes as the city struggles to keep its residents from leaving.

They are not closing. They are moving to a location outside of Portland. Closing of the existing location has everything to do with massive crime and homelessness in Portland.

It is not as if they are calling it quits. They are just moving to a safer, more sane location outside of the Portland city limits.

The move has everything to do with the woke failure of Portland as an unsafe city.

Alcohol and beer wine sales are very down nationwide due to marijuana trends.

I have a similar recipe fermenting now in a 1 gallon Carlo Rossi wine jug. I use Welches 100% grape juice with only ascorbic acid added.

I use a wine yeast but Fleischmans active yeast works fine. But I would suggest investing in a $3.00 fermentation air lock from Amazon or the local home brew store and at the end of the fermentation period its really better to siphon the wine off of the sediment in the bottom to a new jug and then return the airlock and let it sit for 4-6 weeks

One other tip is to add tannin which really improves the flavor. For a gallon of wine steep one black tea bag in one cup of boiling water for 5 minutes. When it cools pour it into the wine mixture. You will not taste tea. Do not use spiced tea or Earl Grey. Just regular old Kroger or walmart black tea bags.

For anybody interested in trying it here is the Welche’s grape juice recipe. It turns out like a dry red concord grape wine. You can back sweeten it with more sugar or honey after fermentation if its too dry. If you back sweeten store it in the fridge so it doesn’t start fermentation again.

1 gallon fermentation jug
1 fermentation airlock
2 large plastic bottles of Welch’s 100% grape juice
4 ounces of white sugar
1 packet of yeast
1 black tea bag

Dissolve sugar in a portion of grape juice then fill a 1 gallon jug with the sugar solution and grape juice. Add 1 cup of brewed black tea for tannin. Leave 3-4 inches of head space in the bottle to allow for fermentation bubbling. Add yeast packet and stir it into the juice. Put cap on nug and add airlock.

Let the wine must sit for approximately 14 days or until there is no activity in the airlock. (Just let it sit for 14 days)
After 14 days siphon the wine off of the sediment into another jug, return the airlock and let sit for 4-6 weeks. You can taste test as you go along. Back sweeten as necessary.

Thanks for the update. That does point more to POrtland as the failure. Sort of like “In ‘n’ Out” closing a store (unheard of by the chain) in Oakland due to safety concerns.

I just put a blueberry wine in the fermenter yesterday with the tannin added and after I rack it I’m going to oak it with some French oak cubes I got off Amazon. Its supposed to turn out tasting like a good dry red wine. We’ll see.

We’re sitting here drinking a glass of the Welch’s stuff from the first batch I made and used a champagne yeast. We’re calling it pink champagne. 23 days from grape to glass. Its drinkable. 😆

When Canada ‘legalized’ marijuana they thought they would make millions in tax revenue... What they didn’t count on was the native population taking over the production and sale of marijuana... And they don’t pay taxes.

The natives already had a well established trade in illegal cigarettes that started in the early 2000s... That business was thriving and in the beginning they relied on criminals to help them with the business of selling illegal tobacco. Then they figured it out... Treaties signed centuries ago stated that natives could sell goods from their own reservations... So they just started selling illegal cigs from their own territory. They started out selling cigarettes in bags, but now they actually manufacture their own cigarettes with their own brands in regular packages.

Legal cigarettes in Canada sell for over $20 per package... Native cigarettes sell for $20 and less per carton.

When marijuana was legalized, they just started selling pot too... And their pot is much cheaper than that offered by government owned and operated dispensaries. The government was stupidly buying marijuana from growers who overcharged them... Selling them pot at rates charged by those who sold pot illegally... So they were offering customers pot at the same price that people typically paid when it was illegal... About $10 per gram... It only cost pennies to grow a gram of marijuana... So do the math. You can grow an ounce of pot for next to nothing... Sell it for $20 per ounce and still make a ton of money... The natives have essentially boxed out the government sellers of legal marijuana and legal cigarettes... The next thing they will be selling is illegal booze.

The great part is... Because of these established treaties.. The government can’t do squat about it.
