I will say, the Turkish soap operas are pretty good, and the women are gorgeous.

ā€œErdoā€ wants to rebuild the Ottoman Empire. While I am sure he smiled and patted Trump on the back, I have to believe that he hates him. I wouldn’t trust the Turks much more than I do an Arab.

We were in Istanbul for 2 nights and one day on an NCL cruise 2 years ago. We were pleasantly surprised with the folks there and felt very welcome. A very industrious vibe - storekeepers sweeping their sidewalks in the mornings, etc. We would go back, as it is one of the most historic cities on the planet.

I agree that the use of ā€œstunnedā€ and ā€œspeechlessā€ has become very trite and hackneyed, and is rarely accurate in any event

Yep, just waiting for the Russians to be neutered, and then the Turks will make their move.

“Trump told reporters that his administration is working to lift sanctions on Turkey, saying “it’s time.” Trump’s first administration sanctioned Turkey in 2020 for acquiring the Russian defense systems.

“I can tell you we’re going to take the sanctions off,” Trump said, answering a Turkish question that appeared to be directed at Erdogan. “I don’t want him to waste his time answering that question.”

Trump said Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Hegseth were working on it.

“We’re going to be taking the sanctions off. It’s time to do that, OK?” he said.”

Trump doesn’t seem to mind hanging out with Arab terrorists.

President Trump Arrives in Ankara, Turkey for NATO Summit – Brilliant Videos

July 7, 2026 | Sundance

You have to really understand the NATO relationship with Turkey, Recep Erdogan and, well, essentially the Muslim Brotherhood, to understand the dynamics at play.

Turkish President Recep Erdogan is a perfectly Turkish man of notoriously intemperate disposition.

Erdogan wears many masks; however, unlike many leaders he does so publicly.Ā  He will say whatever is needed to make the ā€˜West’ think they have upper hand, while doing exactly the opposite.

Erdogan will decry terrorism, take in Syrian refugees and simultaneously kill Kurds, and provide safe harbor for the worst elements of The Muslim Brotherhood (political Islam).Ā  No one sleeps in Erdogan’s camp without one eye open and a weapon under their pillow.

The ā€˜West’ hates his duplicity and leverage.Ā  The Russians don’t trust him an inch. The Arabs think he’s sketchy, and the Persians tolerate him.Ā  However, Erdogan is centered in the Gateway between the Middle East and Europe; even Turkey’s geography is critical.

There is only one guy in global politics who interacts with Recep Erdogan in a way that generates mutual respect; that guy is Donald Trump.Ā

The skillset that Trump carries is his lack of pretending, his brutal honesty in every interaction.Ā Trump could be standing next to Erdogan at a presser, answer a question and say,

ā€œHe’s a strong man, he’s probably lying, but that’s ok, I like him, it’s strong politics, you can’t be weak we will figure it out.ā€

…. To wit Erdogan won’t flinch an inch but smile inside.

In a weird way, 99% of the viewing public will not understand the dynamic of this relationship, but it’s funny.Ā  If there was one global leader who would be disliked by NATO more than Erdogan, it’s probably Trump.Ā  The two non-pretending leaders -absolutely critical for everything- have a great deal of mutual respect for each other.

There’s a reason why the notoriously insufferable NATO manipulator met President Trump at the airport, with an official greeting.

WATCH:

There’s a reason why President Erdogan arranged a state arrival ceremony and honor guard review for President Trump in Ankara.

How tough would it be to conceal a catastrophic kill-switch somewhere in the circuitry of fighter jets you sell to a potential enemy? In the event that customer turns against you, well I remember an interesting story about pagers.

You have to go back and explore the whole country, I bought a sensational rug in Izmir. country women did wear veils and I had a terrific laugh and a hug with one veiled woman in some small city . etc etc etc.

what made it possible was a terrific guide with a wonderful
car who did speak english. ever so much better and more interesting than a tour bus. and worth the money we spent, maybe 200 american dollars. His name was Yelzin, but that was decades ago. he even took us to some roman ruins in turkey.

cats all over the place, turks love cats. One breed, one breed loves water. go figure.

go with someone you like and have fun.

I wouldn’t trust him anymore than I trust the Iranians. And I’m sure Trump doesn’t, either.
