Reading of the Declaration of Independence this morning at a local park, then we come home and I read Patrick Henry's speech to the Virginia House of Burgesses to my family.

I would argue that without Patrick Henry's speech in 1775 there very well might not be a Declaration of Independence.

While Massachusetts was engaged in war, the other center of power, Virginia, was heavily Loyalist. That is, until Patrick Henry's speech galvanized Virginia and brought her into the fight.

I had taken a nine-month course in US Constitution and one of our instructors (a former US Congressman from CO), recited Patrick Henry's speech for our entire class. By the end we all rose and cheered, ready to fight us some Redcoats!

YES ! What a great day to be alive and witness this day given by God! 250 years, we are but a babe and look at our strength and resolve. Same as it always was I suppose, say for when the break away from Britain our citizenship was divided as our divisions today. I am delighted to see the sun rising / still moving around and enjoying a delicious cup of Iced coffee as it is in the high 70’s at 7 A.M. . America is officially 250 years old....who’d a thunk? God bless you all Freepers and God THANK YOU for such a great REPUBLIC to grow and live in . John M. Brady (aka:mythenjoseph)

Amen.

One cannot, really, be American absent an awareness of God. ‘What is a Patriot?’, we are asked. An American Patriot is a man or woman who understands, absolutely, that their worth and rights as human beings are innate, divine, and permanent. No two-bit politician or ‘leader’ controls either. They pine for that control, relentlessly, but a Patriot knows what the score truly is and is prepared to remind them of just who, exactly, is ‘in charge’.

Freedom in America

Freedom in America
Isn’t really free;
We often pay a price
To keep our liberty.

Remember those we loved,
Who fought for us, and died;
And those we never knew
For whom others mourned and cried.

At home our “war” for freedom
Is sadly overdue;
We’ve let corruption stage
A sad and grievous coup.

No longer can we brush off
Dishonesty and greed,
Lust for wealth and power;
We can’t, we won’t concede.

Complacency is weakness
Patriots can’t afford;
We have to act on wrongs
That cannot be ignored.

We must give up some time,
Spent on other pleasures,
To restore America’s freedom,
To keep America’s treasures.

Money spent on trifles
Must now go to our cause:
Get rid of the offenders,
Constitutional outlaws.

Freedom in America
Isn’t really free
It’s up to American patriots;
It’s up to you and me.

We’re celebrating by waking up to see the purple mountains majesties of Pike’s Peak and ending the day crossing the fruited plains on our road trip home to Maryland.

We did some overlanding on over 100 miles of off road trails through several mountain passes as we witnessed the majesty of God’s creation as we thanked him for his providence of our birth in the greatest country on earth.

We are trying to decide which 4th of July movie to watch - “Born on the 4th of July” or “Jaws.”
