A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has sparked a strong reaction online, with more dislikes than likes appearing on YouTube. The film, which is set to release in July and stars Matt Damon, Zendaya, and a large ensemble cast, has quickly become one of the most talked-about movies of 2026. The information comes from viewer reactions on YouTube and wider reporting on the trailer’s reception.

Many viewers have focused on what they see as modern-style dialogue and casting choices that do not match expectations of historical accuracy. Some people online say the characters sound too contemporary, while others question whether the casting fits the world of Homer’s ancient epic.

The Odyssey's final trailer (24 hours): 🟢38k likes 🔴123k dislikes I can't possibly image why… The Odyssey's final trailer has a disastrous ratio after 24 hours:

I can't possibly imagine why…

Classic example of "go woke, go broke" casting. Hollywood continues to desecrate Western classics with modern identity politics.10

I’m feeling just the opposite. Last year I sent Universal Pictures an email. I suggested that the entire cast be made up of modern-day Munchkins. After all, it worked before.

My email was rudely ignored.

So I hope the movie fails. Universal Pictures deserves it.

Just watched the trailer. I’ve seen video games that look more realistic than the CGI in the movie.

Nolan doesn’t use CGI

He’s famous for it

When this movie brings in $1.5 billion (cost $250 m to make and market) these you tube plants will be shamed. Or very busy. One of the other losing position

WHAT!

Are movie goers finally tired of Black people in 17th century European royal court dramas?

It can't be.

Can it be that people are at least educated enough to know (and care) that people in the 5th century BC didn't speak with 21 century AD idioms?

Can it be that people are finally tired enough of the Woke nonsense coming out of Hollywood that they are willing to publicly voice their ire?

I don't believe it, but I can hope.

This is the summer of haircuts. Spielberg, Nolan, Star Wars Disney, Gunn all taking a hit. Only movie that might be safe is Spider Man. That’s a perennial.

Historical Accuracy?

Isn’t it fiction?

"The King" (2019) had realistic fight scenes.

This looks like comic book stuff.

You seem to be laboring under the delusion that bread and circuses are holy sacraments.

My sister loved "Queen Charlotte". Totally ridiculous.

It is a fictional piece written by and for Greeks around 500 BC. If they wanted to write an "Odyssey-inspired" piece set in 1950s Kenya, or Australia circa 2400 AD? Have at it!

But if someone boasts about historical accuracy and makes a black woman "Helen of Troy" and casts a tiny demented woman as a man of ANY sort...then they deserve to be berated.

As they would if they had cast Elliot Page (5'1", 100 pounds) as William Wallace in a remake of Braveheart...

If you are fine with the race swapping and Anne Boleyn as a black woman? Have at it. But I find it very offensive to be told white people need to disappear - and enjoy it!

You can love something while knowing it is historically absurd.

I still love Kelly's Heroes even though it was not quite historically accurate.
