The Daughters of the American Revolution officially rejected a proposed ban on transgender women from joining the organization on June 26.
The long-awaited vote came after years of pressure within the DAR — a nonprofit historical preservation and education society created in 1890, composed of women with direct ancestry to soldiers in the American Revolutionary War — to exclude trans women from the organization’s definition of “woman,” which would effectively ban them from its ranks.
In 2023, the DAR officially amended their guidelines to include language that protects trans members against discrimination in the application process, per The Washingtonian.
“Some have asked if this means a transgender woman can join DAR or if this means that DAR chapters have previously welcomed transgender women,” Pamela Rouse Wright, President of the DAR, wrote in a newsletter on the bylaws. “The answer to both questions is, yes.”

In fact, we should just allow nonhumans to apply for membership at this point.
This isn’t going to end well for women. Men are going to get fed up with all this nonsense women are doing to out country and they will show the are dominant. Giving women the right to vote , worse decision ever.

I am proud to be a descendant of twenty-three American Revolution fighters, both on my maternal and paternal sides. I never joined but several of my family members are and have been members, my Aunt who is deceased was a member for over sixty years. I have somewhat regretted my decision, but now I don’t.
I think their mobcaps are on too tight.
Grace Slick, singer in Jefferson Airplane and later Starship, was an authenticated as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her mother was Virginia Barnett and thus she is a blood relation of William White who arrived on the Mayflower in 1620.
The Colonial Militia would have lined them up against a wall, and shot them.

I have the certificate and backup information for my aunt’s DAR membership in the Steuben County, NY, from decades ago. I was holding on to it so I could use the info to join myself.

The Who were playing a sold-out show at DAR Constitution Hall on the evening of **March 31, 1968**. At the very same time, millions of Americans were watching Lyndon B. Johnson deliver a nationally televised speech about the Vietnam War. Near the end of the speech, Johnson stunned the country by declaring:

### What happened at the concert?
One of the enduring stories from that night is that before the concert began, Roger Daltrey walked onto the stage and announced that President Johnson had just said he would not run for reelection.
According to a firsthand account later published in *The Washington Post* by someone who attended the concert:
* Daltrey came out in front of the curtain before the show.
* He told the audience that Johnson would not seek reelection.
* The audience erupted in cheers, stood up, and reacted with astonishment.
* Daltrey then disappeared backstage, and moments later the curtain opened and The Who launched into their performance. ([The Washington Post][2])
### Why was it such a dramatic moment?
It’s hard to overstate how shocking Johnson’s announcement was.
Almost everyone expected his speech to be about Vietnam. Very few people—including many of his own advisers—knew he was about to withdraw from the presidential race. The announcement completely overshadowed the rest of the speech and instantly reshaped the 1968 election. ([Miller Center][1])
Imagine being at a loud rock concert in Washington and suddenly hearing from a British rock singer that the sitting President of the United States had just abandoned his reelection campaign. In 1968, there were no smartphones, text messages, or social media. Many people in that audience learned one of the biggest political stories of the decade from The Who.
### The concert itself
The show came during The Who’s first major U.S. breakthrough. They were touring behind **The Who Sell Out** and had become known for:
* explosive performances,
* Pete Townshend smashing guitars,
* Keith Moon’s wild drumming,
* and a volume and intensity that few American audiences had experienced.
