Americans age 50 and older are getting divorced—with almost half of all broken marriages in recent years coming from aging Gen Xers and Baby Boomers.
Gray divorces doubled between 1990 and 2010, until they comprised about one in four of all divorces nationally...
And though divorce has been dropping in most age groups across America, it has not among people 50 years and older.
Michael Stutman, a top New York City divorce lawyer, thinks a “popular culture” shift around modern marriage expectations, coupled with staring down the barrel of mortality, could be playing a part.
“The thing about people who are over 50 is that they’re getting cognizant that the fuel gauge is starting to go down to empty,” Stutman told The Post.
“And there’s one thing money can’t buy, which is time.”

My moment came when I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.When the proctologist finished his exam, and left the room so I could get dressed, my wife was there too. Her defining moment was when she declared, in her sanity, “that I had to go out there and get this!!”

So, how have you dealt with it? What are your treatment options?
Post-vaxx I get colonoscopies every 3 years now. They usually find and remove polyps. Used to be they didn’t grow that fast. But now they do so I shortened the 5 year timeline. Last one was this past April in Thailand at the Bumrungrad hospital, Bangkok.
Mom didn’t start living until Dad died. She said they were the best 15 years of her life.

I guess you don’t read cruise blogs. Apparently, the pineapple on a cabin door signals “we’re swingers”. (I don’t recall ever seeing one, but that’s the story. Could be an urban legend.)
That’s harsh.
I wouldn’t even want to have a roommate.
I think it can happen if the two are so wrapped up in work and kids that ‘they’ i.e. the couple don’t exist anymore.

I had a long marriage to a lovely woman. She died five years ago. She was 80, seven years older than me.
Then last September a name from the past popped up, a girl I went to high school with. We started texting and agreed to meet at Christmas when I make the two day drive to stay with my brother. We hit it off instantly. She has been to visit me twice in the last six months, staying a week each time. We love being together, even if it’s just to go shopping or a road trip. Of course, snuggling in bed is nice too.
We’re living in a man’s world even in marriage. Can’t blame women for wanting more. Bearing children is a woman’s calling. She’s then stuck. The good news is she keeps the house when it ends and he gets the sro hotel with the bathroom down the hall. Think Robert Cray in Guess I showed Her.

True statement, and if upside down, they were good to go. Some cruises have cracked down on the pineapples.
I’ve never even been on a cruise. I have no idea if the pineapple story is correct - but I know nothing like that goes on where I live.
I tell my wife that being married to me is in the greatest as well. :-)
Actually, we both agree that neither of us is perfect, just perfect for each other.
I also realize I'll never win the lottery since I used up all my luck when I met her.
What's really scary is that my youngest son graduated HS last year, and I think like 75% of his classmates had divorced parents.
I told my wife my philosophy in life is to embrace your mistakes and move on.
She gave me a big hug and handed me divorce papers.
Married 53 years at 71...got married right out of highschool and still living the dream. She’s a keeper.

If a couple lives in a community property state, and one is facing potentially serious major health issues, bifurcating assets can be a wise move. If one has a crippling stroke and spends the rest of their life in a nursing home, that can drain all assets, leaving the surviving party destitute. Better to let one be penniless and on Medicaid than both be in the poorhouse together. Just practical consideration. Simple uncontested dissolution can be a financial life saver.
