SAN DIEGO, CA — NASCAR will celebrate Pride month this year by featuring its first all-Subaru race at the Navy 250 in San Diego.
Feeling that being hosted at a Navy base was not quite gay enough, NASCAR officials decided to up the ante by requiring all entrants drive a Subaru station wagon with at least 17 bumper stickers.
"Now that's what I call 'Pride'," said NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell. "There will be little sailor outfits, Subarus, and 'It's Raining Men' blasting on the loudspeakers. We're going all in this year. The crews are going to all do the 'YMCA' with every pit stop, and we'll cut the bottoms right off of those leather driver uniforms. Woo Pride!"
In addition to Subaru, several zoos, animal shelters, and hair salons will also be featured as title sponsors. "The fans are going to love seeing 40 Subarus with roof racks doing 87 mph with excellent traction," said NASCAR official Billy Gerken as he prepared for the race. "The hum of that 2.5-liter engine is going to really knock 'em back in their seats. 'Ope! Almost forgot to set out everyone's mandatory 'COEXIST' bumper sticker."
At publishing time, NASCAR had announced that in lieu of the traditional champagne shower, the winner would be doused in bubble bath and handed a bottle of Rosé.
I dunno. Gay dudes with enough change to jingle seem fond of Saabs and Volvos, too.
And let’s not forget the one car that’s almost always “leftward” - the Prius.
,,, no more SAABs now. As for the Prius, they look more Citroen than Citroen and they’re a zillion times more reliable - with outstanding fuel economy and parts availability. Now the Chinese own Volvo I wouldn’t have one for that reason.
I know it; just seeing if I could get 'further mileage' out of that old saw. Of course comedian Tim Wilson's novelty song didn't help, either:
IDK where you are, but they are the lesbomobiles around here.
The homos I know drive Audi, not Subaru
Not supposedly: they discovered that lesbians were disproportionately likely to buy their cars—about four times more likely than the average consumer.
I see what you did there, and I highly approve!
Their hair was perfect!
It’s satire my friend.....try not to take it too seriously.
And it’s more of a slam at nascar than anything else.
On a serious nature, the Coronado Bay race ended with American Surrender, as they raised the Japanese flag above the US naval base and played “Kimi ga yo” (Japanese national anthem) after the race.
In the early 1990s, Subaru was struggling with declining U.S. sales and looked for ways to stand out. Upon conducting market research, the company discovered a unique, highly loyal base of customers: educators, healthcare workers, and outdoorsy women—many of whom were lesbians. Recognizing a market that had been ignored by mainstream advertisers, Subaru pivoted its strategy to cater specifically to this group.
I do remember that a lot of teachers drove Subarus and were bitter about not being able to afford anything better.
At one time I had a Subaru 4WD XT. It was a great car! One of the best I’ve ever owned!
can’t get that out of newer ones. the CVT will poop the bed and the cost to repair exceeds the value of the car.
The older ones (like yours) with a traditional automatic transmission are the best.
I hear they are equipped with Salmon air fresheners.
