LEESBURG, Fla. - An elderly Florida man was arrested for allegedly street racing in Lake County, deputies said.
When confronted with the accusation, William Bosworth, 85, responded that he was just "having a little ride in my favorite car."
Now, Bosworth faces two charges for driving in a vehicle race and dangerous excessive speeding.
A Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted two vehicles appearing to be street racing on U.S. Highway 27 and County Road 33 in Leesburg around 11:40 p.m., June 12. A radar showed a red corvette traveling at 125 miles per hour and a gray sports car traveling at 110 miles per hour – both in a 45 miles per hour zone.
After activating his emergency lights, the deputy pulled over Bosworth – the driver of the gray sports car – an arrest affidavit said.
The interaction between the deputy and the elderly driver was captured on body camera footage.
When the deputy addressed Bosworth's alleged street racing, Bosworth responded, "No, that guy, he swerved at me." Bosworth continued to explain he was driving 110 mph "only because he swerved at me. I wanted to get away from him before we caused a problem."
Bosworth went on to deny he was street racing with the other driver, saying he was "out having a little ride in my favorite car."
Bosworth complied with the deputy's commands to get out of the car, and he was placed in handcuffs. He was arrested for excessive speeding and street racing.
Racing a Corvette in a Datsun?
The Vette driver should have felt insulted.
I remember flooring a KIA thing on the Autobahn. Passed at 110 like I was standing still.
We’ve all done that. In a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass 350, or a 1987 Honda CRX.
Maybe not a Yugo or Prius or Leaf though.
I think almost every car made until the mid 1980s could do at least 120, even If a 10% downgrade was required for some.
That’s why the Vette owner won the race.
As Uncle Leo on Seinfeld would say, “Come on! We all do it! We’re OLD!”
Old man driving like an idiot.
The important fact was left out: Did he win?
William Shatner already starred in the movie (Senior Moment.) Precognition or imitation- inquiring minds....
I went to the site just to see if it was my father-in-law. Surprisingly, it wasn’t.
Boomer math??
I went there to see if it was my best friend.
It wasn’t.
But I laughed out loud at this :
“Bosworth claimed on body camera footage that he wasn’t speed racing, and was trying to get away from the other driver.”
Isn’t that the very definition of “racing“?
As I approached the off ramp I glanced at the speedometer. The needle was dropping towards 120.

I’ve had a few of those experiences...a bunch of them with rental cars trying not to miss a plane. Then time moved on and they started to put ‘speed limiters’ in them.
I went most of the way across Nevada at 145MPH legally, when the speed limit was reasonable and proper.
I would have gone faster, by my 240Z didn't have a spoiler, so at 150MPH. the rear lifted and danced around.
That particular “Datsun” (370Z) is close cousin to a vehicle model known as “Godzilla” (Skyline), which would TOW that ‘Vette faster than it is capable of itself.
Mr Bosworth now has some Street Cred (Grin).
Done 130 several times on Nevada back roads. Wanted to make up a little time.
Caddy CTS, small engine. And the cruise can be set at 130.
Statute of limitations has run out.
Looking for the little old Lady from Pasadena. “Go, Daddy, Go, Daddy, Go Daddy Go!”
Forgot - Gold wing, coming down through 140 a few times. Germany autobahn.
I remember flooring a KIA thing on the Autobahn. Passed at 110 like I was standing still.
