“We feel very confident that we can put this together, but capitalization is key.”

Translation, it would be ridiculously expensive and we don’t have enough money.

I’m out. 80,000 idiots, half of them drunk, doesn’t sound appealing.

In the classic tradition of FR, I did not read the article. Is it to be fixed/anchored in a single location? Or does it travel around the world like a giant inflatable pool raft?

Some of the massive cruise liners are big enough.

For my taste, I’d rather take river cruise down one of the historic European waterways on a small, 80-passenger cruise boat. These seem much classier than Carnival chimpout ghetto ships.

In the SF novel A Torrent of Faces, about a quarter of the story is taken up with a sub-story about an enormous floating resort called the Barrier Hilton. It's a gigantic semi-submerged sphere surrounded by a huge ring about two thirds of the way up from the bottom; the ring functions as a beach, complete with sand dunes. The size of the sphere is enormous; it is designed to accommodate a million guests.

In the novel, a computer problem causes the sphere to become unmoored from its supporting structure; a huge rescue operation is described. The whole story was quite detailed and imaginative, at least to my 13-year-old self.

Plague
Exciting and new
Come aboard
We’re expecting you

The runs,
From norovirus
Let it flow, it floats back to you

The plague boat
Soon will be giving you the runs
The plague boat
Promises something for everyone

Set a course for the bathroom
Your mind on some clean new pants

“Plans are being put forward to create the world’s first-ever “floating city,” which would be powered by nuclear energy and have a capacity of 80,000 – dwarfing the finest cruise ships in the world.”

A nice test run for a habitat for Venus outpost.
