‘Whoa’: 12-Year-Old Boy Finds 80-Million-Year-Old Fossil During Educational Field Trip

A Kansas boy found something historic during an educational field trip.

Corbin Bullard, 12, is already a geology fan, especially dinosaurs. He is also a part of the 4-H Geology Club in Sedgwick County.

“4-H is definitely meant to help kids find what they’re interested in and do amazing things,” Stephanie Hays, the Sedgwick County 4-H agent, said.

And it was on one of the 4-H trips in Jewell County where Corbin stumbled across something unexpected.

“He said, ‘Whoa.’ So, we looked down and found what I think was seven or eight large vertebrae,” Wendy Bullard, Corbin’s mother, recalled.

The vertebrae ended up being a part of a tylosaurus fossil from the Cretaceous period.

“Who would’ve thought?” Bullard said.

Corbin found the fossil back in September, and it took three trips to excavate the entire item. The tylosaurus is not a dinosaur but a mosasaur, and it swam in Kansas 80 million years ago.

“Pretty much all of the middle of America used to be underwater,” Corbin said.

The 12-year-old is currently cleaning the eight-piece fossil, which measures over 15 feet tall. It has taken some time. At least 30 hours, he said.

“I feel like it’s very surreal to have had this happen. I’m very proud of Corbin for sticking through it and finding everything,” Hays said.

If you want to see the skull of the tylosaurus, Corbin will have it on display at the Sedgwick County Fair in July.

I believe there are a few Democrats who are about 80 million years old. Al Green, a caveman and Rosa DeLauro, a purple haired witch...

If you had seen one recently you probably wouldn’t be in a position to report it

Why not? Because Earth is only 6000 years old?

100 is average. Genius level is 150 and above.

“ He scored 6 points above the best possible score.”

lol. I assume that you are joking.

But if not, 100 is average on the scale of a typical IQ test.

Back then it was a different scale.

130 was the “genius” level, or two standard deviations (of 15) above the mean.

(It didn’t use that term as it was considered a tad loaded.)

"Geology isn’t related to dinosaurs."

But geology (more specifically, chronostratigraphy) is elemental to the dating of fossils.

Proudly, yes. I had a long response planned but I’ll just leave this:
I choose to believe God created the heavens and earth. I will never place my faith in human knowledge, ever.

He did millions and millions of years ago. Created everything including animals, fish, birds and yes, dinosaurs.

Holy leaps and bounds Batman! How’d you make that association? What a terribly strawman argument to make.

Let me ask you this, what cam first, the chicken, or the egg? Have you studied the egg? Do you know how perfect it has to be to be able to support life so a chick can hatch? It had to be perfect, in all species of birds across the board. It it wasn’t, all bird species of bird would die in 1 generation.
This is but 1 simple, rational, thought experiment.

We’ve been invaded by the young earth creationist crowd.

But they've got pictures 'n everything.

That wasn’t the context of the reference to geology in the article.

I also believe God did that. I also believe that God left us plenty of mysteries to unravel, as a kindness.

"That wasn’t the context of the reference to geology in the article." You post didn't make that stipulation.

“No he didn’t” is a very child-like and nonsensical refutation — more a shoolyard taunt than an argument (as are the bulk of creationists’ counterarguments).

Using the James Hubble telescpe, scientists have observed (and named) a galaxy they call MoM-z14. By measuring the redshift of radio energy from MoM-z14, they calculated it is some 13.5 billion light years from Earth.

Einstein theorized that information cannot travel faster than light, which means that that signal began its flight here at least 13.5 billion years ago. So if you can explain to me why Einstein was wrong (without invoking magic, supersition or the infield fly rule), I’d love to hear it.
