Natural grass playing surface installed in AT&T Stadium ahead of FIFA World Cup

The grass is real in AT&T Stadium, well, at least for the next two months.

Renamed “Dallas Stadium” for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the artificial surface at the home of the Dallas Cowboys was replaced with a Kentucky bluegrass and rye blend grown in Colorado. The North Texas FWC Organizing Committee held a press conference on Thursday to showcase the pitch ahead of June 14, when the Netherlands and Japan clash in the first group stage match in Arlington.

Crews installed a natural grass playing surface in AT&T Stadium ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and it’ll be under intense care to be in the best shape possible for nine World Cup matches at the venue, renamed “Dallas Stadium,” for the event. (Courtesy of Tony Fay PR) The rolls of sod were installed in the stadium earlier in the week and will be under special pink-shaded grow lights to help keep it fresh for the nine matches the venue will host. FIFA requires its international tournaments be played on natural grass

Tod Martin, AT&T Stadium’s general manager, said since a soccer field is wider than a football field, some lower-level suites and seats had to be removed to allow players enough space for corner kicks and for team benches on the sidelines.

Austin preps for World Cup fever this summer FIFA sponsored a five-year sports turf research initiative with the University of Tennessee and Michigan State University to help develop the grass.

NRG Stadium in Houston, renamed “Houston Stadium” for the event, is undergoing a similar process. It will host seven matches.

Every stadium with corporate naming rights that hosts matches has been renamed to its location due to FIFA’s advertising rules that protect their official partners.

Right this stadium is a lease for Jerry he got the city to build it for him, he owned the Irving one it came as part of the deal for the franchise one of the best business deals in American history a $140 million investment into a multiple billion dollar franchise.

So Arlington is getting the windfall then even better. No need to make Jerry richer. Have to admit he got the city to build him a billion plus dollar venue.

Wow you are really out of touch. Get out more travel the world. Football the kind actually played with your foot not hand egg is the most played, most watched sport on this planet. Literally the rest of the world doesn’t care what old boomer Americans do or watch.

World Cup is exactly that a world wide competition that gets billions for the host countries as people come from all over to watch, participate, party and socialize. It is a global party one that should be celebrated as a triumph of sportsmanship and good will.

I don’t care what “boomer America” thinks either. You my friend are the one out of touch and blinded by distractions and celebrate with those that wish to conquer/kill us. Soccer sucks.

Not me. Not anymore. I am a reformed ex-sports nut. I no longer watch sports. I was forever playing, watching, and serving as a high school sports official for 25 years. I watched it all. From the first day of ESPN my eyes were glued to the boob tube—no more. I have not been to a live game of any type for over 20 years. I actually found a life doing other things with my time.

There are no ties at the eliminations stage the game is played until a winner is had. If after double OT it goes to kicks which is always fun to cheer for the players are exhausted by the 120 minute mark. Sudden death follows the first round of kicks but there can be no tie.

Dallas is gonna be LIT 🔥 next month. I have people coming from Japan, and Argentina that via the magic of Elon and his automatic native language translation we share mutual interests. Spend $700 a night in a hotel nah Japan bro stay in the guest house aka the mother-in-law pad party with US , have BBQ I am taking them to shoot class 3 weapons too. We will be at the Japan match anyways so no need for transport the radio station has us with staff transport and box seats.

Next time I am in Japan yup have a home to stay in with friends I already have a slew of Japanese friends my dad was an executive for TELCO and we spent weeks in Japan together. Longest was 6 weeks. Lifelong friends in Japan I love that nation it high trust and everything good about disciplined society and people. You will never see a Japanese national chimp out.

People like you just like to be miserable. It’s a game, hosted by a rotating country or continent. When for a few weeks we can come together and play sport, share food, and culture and generally have a good time with guests. The fact it’s a windfall of revenue for the host cities is just gravy. God some people are just bitter in life I would hate to live such a way. My Japanese friends and Argentina’s are coming last I checked Japan was our closest ally in Asia so much for them wanting to “kill” us. Maybe in 1942 long before any of us where even born or our parents born too.

Good analysis. (Great minds think alike! Lol)

The sports industrial complex is real.

One of the few sports that actually prove work related skills is rodeo. (Except for bull riding. In the words of my dad, cattleman and expert horseman, “Bull riding has got nothing to do with working cattle or horsemanship. It’s just gladiator stuff”. But stupid teen me had to try it once. I painfully agreed with Dad after that.)

“It’s a game and a diversion from reality.”

We were born with imaginations. Aren’t they jumping-off points from reality? Imagining can be creative as well as a waste of time.

I am actually quite happy. I live in America and love it here. I am well-traveled from youth and other jobs I have had, 8 other countries last count - all in the eastern hemisphere) and other than some architecture in Europe I was not impressed by any. I will say that the Asian countries I went to were very clean and I was treated very well.

I don’t care about other cultures and foods I like what I like. Thankfully I live in a country where I have the freedom not to watch that crap and also complain if I want, unlike most of the countries you express love for. So, you enjoy, as will I, by not watching.

Turns out Jerry does have exclusivity. So he is the land lease holder while the city owns the station deed, Jerry is sole operations holder so all ticket revenue cut, vendors ,parking , bars it’s all his wheel house until 2050 as of the last lease renewals. So yeah he expects a pay back on the $350 million he put in the upgrades to aptly named Jerry World.

Got to love the get a city to build you a 1.3 billion dollar facility using bonds and then lease it for the next 50 years while running in the black. Again he turned a $140 million investment into a multiple billion dollar franchise purr business genius.

Me too, rodeoed when younger (bronc events) and still team rope. Did the bull riding twice and once in the well was all it took. I also enjoy cutting, working horse, and pattern riding.

The only other sport of that type I can name is golf. You make the cut or don’t get paid (outside of sponsors), more if you win. Plus, anyone can play. No muscle meatheads heads, 4.4 forty guys, or sumo wrestlers. Most golfers are average in shape, some are chubby, so there is hope for anyone if you can strike the ball consistently.

He is also like most of his players, a jerk and adulterer. Good for him.

**..I watched it all. From the first day of ESPN my eyes were glued to the boob tube...**

The sports industrial complex has played a big part of causing obesity. People sitting for hours, watching a meaningless game while consuming 1k+ calories.

I have attended a grandson’s little league games, and noted that many of the children’s parents were testing the structural limitations of folding chairs.

I have stood on 6 of 7 continents in over 100 nations. Only Antarctica is missed. The military two branches, oil & gas, pre and post doc funded research, geointel work had me all over this planet. For a 25+ year period.

America is great but by no means exclusive. Tuscany smashes Napa or Centex for wine country. Switzerland kills any skiing anywhere in North America let alone the USA. Japan has world class clean, safe cities where you can leave your backpack ,phone and wallet on a table and go to the bathroom it will still be right where you left it. Want to see what a modern world class city with high speed rail and fully autonomous vehicles Shanghai is that city make NYC look like a cesspool. I went to NYU so the City is a touch stone for me it is simply outclassed by other megacities. Paris used to be nice same for London they are lost. I would choose Vietnam over Louisiana any day of the week of tropical climate was my jams. Da Nang is fire, so is Hue. Hong Kong also lit and if gamble Macau is a toll routes away. SE Asia is one of my favorite places on earth. Joberg used to be nice same for Cape Town now lost , low trust low IQ people ruined it.

If my second wife didn’t have 7 figure brick and mortar in the USA we would be in Tuscany part of the year and the Alps in summer. Geneva is close to perfection in society , exclusivity and solid banking access.

Ahhh yes the blues and the Greens.

In America, Cowboy’s fans don’t kill cheese head fans.

But soccer fans do occasionally actually beat up on each other I believe.

Perhaps America is actually more civilized than Europe

I delivered bulk (about 23 tons) golf grade sand for tees and greens, and various tones of bunker sand from around 2003 to 07, to over 100 courses in IA, IL, MO, and IN.

Often I would be able pre-load the day before, beat metro traffic by arriving before sun up. It was common to notice the smell of pesticides in the air.

Not a golfer, but I recommend washing your hands after handling golf clubs, balls, and shoes.

Golf course maintenance crews probably lay down 5 times the pesticides per acre than farmers do. (I was farmer until 2001)

Damn right it’s a diversion from reality. The human brain REQUIRES diversions from reality to function. It’s why we dream. It’s why we tell stories. It’s why we make music. And yes it’s why we invent sports.

Jerry should keep the grass. It’s better for the athletes’ knees than turf. Rarely will I say an organization as corrupt as FIFA is right about anything. But in this case they are. All the sports should ban turf. The expense of grass is nothing compared to how much they pay guys to sit on the bench with preventable injuries. The cost of one star running back missing one game would pay for grass all year.
