WSJ ^ | Apr 29, 2026 | Zusha Elinson

In a shift from the past, more accused violent assailants have striking academic records. ‘We’re seeing a new breed of individual.’

An Ivy League grad. An aspiring engineer who scored 1530 out of 1600 on his SAT. A 4.0 high-school student with a prestigious college scholarship. And now, a Caltech grad.

Chomsky is an excellent example of how a smart guy can become the political equivalent of a moron.

People constantly wonder how it's possible for extremely intelligent people to hold insane political views.

A high IQ doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're talking about. In fact, they're ignorant. The ones that spend their whole life in the academic world are insulated from practical realities. Their views on economics come from talking to left-wing economics professors. They should talk to small business owners.

I blame altruism. By subscribing to the philosophy that sacrifice is the good, anything that causes sacrifice is automatically the good no matter how horrible the outcome.

Just illustrates, like the mad bomber Ted Kaczynski, that the issue is not intelligence but a toxic attitude.

There are all sorts of sociopaths. Cole Allen and Ted Kaczynski are/were math whizzes. So was Jeffrey Epstein, not a would be assassin or mad bomber, but a different type of sociopath.

IQ tests seldom measure ability to deal with the mundane world.

And emotions can easily lead us astray.

Intelligence is no impediment to stupidity.

Insert into ALL of the cited “high IQ” assassins, thus use of daily large dose marijuana/THC psychotropic, and fentanyl, MDA, as well as prescribed and unprescribed anxiolytics/anti-depressants combined with... alcohol. Daily.

Drops whatever implied IQ to well below 100, for starters. Do not worship at the temple of SAT scores as IQ tests. They aren’t. Lots of engineers are dumb as a sack of rocks— in IQ as well as Emotional Quotient (which is markedly balancing in IQ only subjects). Engingeniuses who can’t relate to people socially (anti-social)-— they don’t exist now do they??? Uh Huh.

Not high IQ.
Educated beyond their intelligence.
I’ve had to deal with a few.

Actually, the Unabomber was very bright. Not sure what his education level was.

Kaczinsky had a doctorate in mathematics, and I think he was briefly a math professor before going off the deep end.

The reason that every major university maintains a department of
mathematics is that it’s cheaper than institutionalizing all those
people.

Having a high IQ simply allows one to more accurately calculate the consequences of one’s actions. It does not prevent ignorance and is not necessarily resistant to propaganda. The combination of vile leftist propaganda and a lack of consequences caused these individuals to calculate the reward was worth the risks.

What was Cole Allen’s actual SAT score? He seems to have serious gaps in the comprehension category.

Someone said a PhD knows more and more about less and less to the point where he/she is almost totally useless except to the tinyiest and smallest group of people.......

Where he/she is found to have incredible personal value, but little real/practical value.

Cole Allen has written a “manifesto” parroting all the TDS talking points and lies. No original thought, no critical thinking, no skepticism even of the most outlandish smears against Trump (he believed the previous attempts against Trump’s life were staged!).
He sounds like a retard and is obviously a DEI hire given his professional non-achievements.
Yet he is supposed to be a genious just because the propaganda media said so? Give.me.a.break.
