Amid a rebranding campaign by climate activists to shift emphasis toward “extreme weather,” they turned to Thomas Karl, Director of NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, for assistance. They needed him to manufacture the “science” to back up their claim that extreme weather events were becoming more frequent and severe. Karl did not disappoint them. He produced a report that backed up everything that they claimed was happening. The centerpiece of the report was a graph that John Clauser recently brought to everyone’s attention at the 16th International Conference on Climate Change. This graph (see below), which is supposed to provide evidence for an increase in climate extremes over time, does nothing of the sort. Its linear trend is not statistically significant (p-value = 0.1785).

Karl must have realized it too, because he constructed an artful deception. He broke his one graph into two graphs: one with values from 1910–1970 and another with values from 1970–2010. The downward sloping trendline from 1910–1970, he showed to no one, while he triumphantly pronounced the upward sloping trendline from 1970–2010 as significant (see graphs below).

Lies and statistics.
Statistical lies, Works both ways.
Statistics don’t lie but statisticians do.
So do the reporters. Jim Cantore being the absolute worst of the worst. I live in a hurricane state and when Jimmy shows up, we all get ready for some intense propaganda. I’ve seen with my own eyes how fake he is and won’t watch that channel ever.
the craft of science
More “settled science.”
For many years I worked as a tech in an R&D environment. Most work was for people trying to prove a point, we’d prove it.
One of the first questions a potential client was asked….”What number do you want?”
This is cherry-picking, a well-known logical fallacy, couched as “science”.
There’s lies, damned lies, and There’s statistics.
More activity on the sun usually means more intense weather activity here.
This is normal. Taxing us more and "scientists" and other leftist nuts getting their panties in a wad won't change anything.
I have never been a Weather Channel fan, even back in the old days when it was a novelty.
I didn’t care for their scheduling format.
But, now that it’s Global Warming all the time formate makes it even less appealing. I can get that stuff anywhere without commercial interruption if I want it.
Kleinsassar has been correct about the climate in KS once or twice.
Percent of what and what constitutes an extreme? Dollar value? That goes up over time just because.
Remember Canou Girl? during a flood, and the men walked through ankle deep water that she was pretending to paddle. Remember the guy leaning into the storm and shouting? and in the background a couple high school boys were walking along in shorts and t-shirts. Remember the reporter standing in waist deep water? and in the background people were walking in ankle deep water. He was in a ditch. Yah, they are liars all the time. If it bleeds it leads.
I find it interesting that regardless of the topic the Left can never be honest. Climate, Covid, gun control, border security, taxes, it makes no difference, they have to lie. And of course, when you lie constantly it becomes hard to keep your stories straight and it opens you up to hypocrisy since you have no core beliefs other than the consolidation of your own power.
Notice that the correlation in the second (lower) graph is not statistically significant, either.
He had to make up that fake graph to keep his job.
A key would be to know what kind of data comprises the ‘extreme weather index.’ A multitude of sins are likely to be hidden in that manufactured metric.
