Savannah Guthrie’s ailing 84-year-old mom likely suffered a fatal medical episode during her kidnapping — and her greedy captors were forced to dump her body because she was no longer “of value” to them once dead, according to a cold-case expert.
The kidnappers likely “underestimated” how fragile Nancy Guthrie’s health was when they carried out their sickening money grab, Brian Martin, an Indiana detective who specializes in cold cases, told NewsNation’s Brian Entin.
That left them forced to scrap their ransom plan and get rid of her body when things went “sideways” with the “Today” show host’s mom, who had a slew of major health issues, the detective suggested.
“What really bothers me is if they underestimated Miss Guthrie’s health and thought, ‘Well, we’ll take her, this will be easy. We’ll hold on to her at an unknown location for a day or two. We’ll get some money out of this and we’ll leave her in a Walmart parking lot,’” Martin said.
“And what they had to do is … it sounds horrible…. They had to dispose of Miss Guthrie because she was no longer of value to them in that monetary gain that they’re hoping to get,” Martin said.
Guthrie vanished from her home in Tucson, Arizona, 67 days ago and has not been seen or heard from since.

This is the exact scenario I have suspected from the very beginning.

She’s 84...of course she’s fragile...Anyone with brains would change their plans and just rob the place and leave.

Could be, but I’m not convinced it was ever a kidnapping.
I think a cartel sent the kidnappers and were looking for a big payday.
From the behavior I saw on the doorbell cam, I don’t think whoever kidnapped her was all that bright.
And that dipshit that calls himself the sheriff didn’t help matters one bit.
Pure, unadulterated evil. And 83 and having had parents who lived to 88 and 93 I’ll say that just about anybody in this age group has a number of apparent and, possibly, not so apparent health problems that would make being kidnapped an absolute disaster and likely to provoke a terminal cardiac event.

They may have underestimated her health.
But the kidnappers did not underestimate the incompetence of the Pima County Sheriff and his department.
It may have been a botched kidnapping but not nearly as botched as the “investigation” which was textbook of what not to do.

She likely didn’t survive more than a day or two given the stress of the kidnapping and her frail health. The kidnappers underestimated both the wealth of the Guthrie family and the health of Nancy Guthrie. Let’s hope they get caught and face murder charges

I think Nancy had something to do with it and is milkin’ it for all it’s worth. Just an opinion.

And initializing refusing the help of the FBI...just plain stupid.
Just a tongue in cheek theory - The Today Show wanted to get rid of Savannah and instead of having to pay out on her contract, they decided to traumatize her to the point of voluntarily quitting. :)
The kidnapping coincided with her planned departure to cover the Olympics and her return to the Today Show brought on 2 more ransom type notes.
