President Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver an update on the war against Iran from the White House on Monday.
Trump says he will hold a press conference along with members of the military at 1 p.m. ET.
The conference lands around the time Trump's 48-hour window for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is set to close. He has vowed to target Iran's power plants and transportation infrastructure on Tuesday if Iran does not strike a deal.
Nevertheless, Vice President JD Vance and other Trump administration officials have spent the weekend in talks with the Iranian regime, with Pakistan acting as mediator. It is unclear whether a deal can be made before the deadline arrives.

Pakistan as ‘mediator’. Ya lost me there. Perhaps they can give them asylum like they did with BinLaden.
It is unclear whether a deal can be made before the deadline arrives.
Holding out hope? Why?
It doesn’t matter.
It’s not in Iran’s nature to capitulate in any way.
I know President Trump knows that as well....it’s just a necessary formality before the next phase of taking out the bridges and power stations.
Yeah, 45 day ceasefire to give them time to import more or better air defense systems and get more of their drones out of the dirt.
Not gonna comment about what's next, but it might not have been a good move for Trump to state that he believed a deal was at hand...
They are playing for time again just like always. They never intend to deal at all. Business as usual which is no deal at all. They just don’t make deals with infidels and the more you persecute them the better they like it and the more convinced they are they are doing the right thing. You can’t beat them into submission so you just have to kill them or live with what they do.
Trump saying a deal is at hand just gives them encouragement to keep going. They some how attach that to leverage in their favor.
I have said here many times what an old friend with Esso said, “Persians are crazy.”
I make no comment on the wisdom of a 45-day cease fire.
But such a cease-fire would push the conflict past the 60-day limit before the War Powers Act is triggered.
Then Congress would get involved, or at least is supposed to.

A deal could be done, but it’s important to understand that a negotiation is 2 ways. FR might want to spend time imagining what Iran would demand, and that the US could agree to.
The reverse is just chest beating and not the path to guessing what is in the negotiations.
Any deal they “agree to” is not worth the paper it’s printed on.
I’d hoped the Iranian people would rise up and take back their country from the Ayatollahs and the destruction of the infrastructure would not be necessary.
It seems to me that the time is NOW! If not now, when? No doubt, there will be casualties and probably lots of them.
Maybe the update is to give Iran more time?
**it’s just a necessary formality before the next phase of taking out the bridges and power stations.**
Bridges and power stations take too long to rebuild. I’d settle for the transmission lines. Give the public opposition every opportunity to rise before making that big call.
We’re not taking out too many civilians. That’s good. Xi and Rocket Man are taking notice.
Another problem is, we may get drawn into a long-term war there that will suck more money out of our treasury and blow the debt beyond $40 trillion.
I was startled to see that the president is asking for $1.5 trillion for defense. There seems to be no end in sight to this. A bottomless hole of money printing.
The Iranians are mad dog shia muslims who are yearning for the return of the mahdi, who will destroy all Jews and Christians and establish an islamic paradise on earth. There’s nothing ‘reasonable’ about them.
It won’t be pretty. Normally I could have a good amount of sympathy for the targets, however, they have had numerous warnings and chances to do the right thing. Sucks to be Iran coming up.
+1 An excellent, right-to-the-point post.
Any deals they would “agree to” are worthless anyhow. Even if they were to “capitulate” it will only be temporary to buy time to re-arm.
The best outcome is likely crippling the country to an extent that it forces them to focus on rebuilding and recovery instead of using their resources and assets to threaten others.
First I knew that the 2nd pilot’s injuries included “heavy bleeding.”
It is good that you are not President.
Maybe they like it the way it is.
And how far are you willing to go to accomplish that goal?
