Both Ayn Rand and George Orwell would have recognized what is going on—and, in fact, they warned us about it.
A form of torture I endure for my research is reading the New York Times morning emails. The phrase “alternate universe” aptly describes its sly, misleading story titles, which demonstrate a built-in bias even before the report itself begins. A good example was a heading marked “Territorial Adventurism” used the other day in reference to Trump’s geopolitical strategy in Iran and elsewhere.
Adventurism is defined as “Involvement in risky enterprises, especially in foreign affairs, while disregarding established principles or adverse consequences.” How rich is it when one of the most liberal newspapers in the entire world delivers the news, as opinions, in a manner designed to predispose readers’ views of stories in a negative context? What hubris that pundits, and that is what they are, deign to tell you how and what to think!
Almost by definition, someone who tells you, “Here’s an important subject and how to think about it,” is likely a bad actor. We are overrun by too many of those bad actors in our country, and they play a starring role in our current crisis of conscience. Yet, there seems to be no way to get rid of these people who, like ticks and fleas, burrow into our collective conscience, leaving us sick, confused, and angry; many have lost hope for a better tomorrow.
When it comes to the written word, here’s our dirty dozen purveyors of yellow journalism:
- The New York Times—National daily with investigative reporting and a liberal editorial stance; large national readership and influence.
- The Washington Post—Major national paper with investigative focus and a mostly liberal editorial voice.
- Vox—Explanatory journalism that often frames policy debates

how do these leftist institutions survive in their alternate reality?
I’d put Milton Friedman in that picture as well. It is because of Milton that I escaped from the State Indoctrination Camp conditioning that California was foisting upon me .
Let's see here. The democrat mayors and governors disregard established principles adverse consequences in order to run cities and states into the ground every day. I guess by the NYT standards these socialists and communists can be accused of adventurism.
I now add the term "established principals" to the term of "settled science" as BS who-determines-what terms.
Masters of Deceit: The Story of Communism in America and How to Fight it
by J. Edgar Hoover (Author)
1958
“Every citizen has a duty to learn more about the menace that threatens his future, his home, his children, the peace of the world - and that is why I have written this book. Communism is more than an economic, political, social, or philosophical doctrine. It is a way of a false, materialistic “religion.” It would strip a man of his belief in God, his heritage of freedom, his trust in love, justice, and mercy. This book is an attempt to explain communism - what it is, how it works, what its aims are, and, most important of all, what we need to know to combat it.”

I’ve always wondered about this also, but I believe it is due to Demonic filth channeling millions (if not billions) of taxpayer dollars to these vile organizations to subsidize their lack of commercial and advertising support (a.k.a. USAID, among others). It’s interesting that since Elon, DOGE, and the Trump Administration uncovered these money laundering operations, these POS libtard networks have fired long-time lying propogandists (Black Hole Lemon, Jake Tapper, F. Chuck Todd, etc.), scumbag newsrags like NY Slimes and the Compost have had massive layoffs, and the resulting loss of the Demonic subsidies have resulted in potential sales of these libtard-cheerleading organizations to non-Marxist ownership. The problem is President Trump only has another three years to right a 50 to 60-year wrong, otherwise we will be right back in the same spot or worse in 2028.
For example this morning on "ABC's This Week" - - Johnathan Karl asked Steve Scalise one 'gotcha' question after another... and Steve Scalise attempted to answer those questions as if they were legitimate questions.
First, questions that attempt to tie a person to an unknowable future should be identified to the audience as a 'gotcha question' explaining the obvious that no one knows the future and all possibilities are on the table in a war situation. Say 'if the plan is to take out 'red powder hill - then new information shows the ammunitions are on 'yellow powder hill' plans are changed. So please Johnathan Karl let's leave the 'crystal ball' questions out of these discussions - your audience deserves better.
The purpose of the 'gotcha question' is to use it against a person a few weeks later. Some future style questions are legate but I've never seen one asked by Karl that were made to a Republican Also, Steve Scalise needs to understand he's talking to the people watching TV at home and NOT to the manipulative moderator who hates Republicans and hates President Trump. If Karl had his way the United States would lose the war with Iran and be nuked in 2 years if it meant Trump would lose power. His hatred is all that's left of a what was once a human journalist.
With every answer Steve Scalise needs to tell himself that this monster would rather see millions of dead Americans than Trump in office.
Ok, but not news to most people.
Most anti-Republican press techniques survive because our people are too arrogant or too stupid to learn how to spot them and how to counter them. We can’t undo the bias of the New York Times but we can do better with leftwing TV ‘journalists’.

Yes the greatest failure in the GOP are failures in communication.
Thank you, MarvinStinson! Much appreciated.
A great article!
I had read this on American Thinker, and is my wont, if I see something interesting, I immediately come to Free Republic and see if MtnClimber has started a thread, as he is the most prolific starter of threads on articles originating on American Thinker.
I thought this was a great article. I am a big fan of Ayn Rand, even. though I dislike her atheism, because I feel that her message overpowers that flaw in her...and also overpowers her prose in her novels, which I fully understand the disdain some Conservatives hold for it.
That is fine...because the message she gave when she published Atlas Shrugged" back in 1957 is desperately needed far more today than it could have been dreamed of back in the America (or the world) of the Fifties. It is insane how disregarded objective thinking is in today's world. How far things have come when powerful people, with straight faces, can insist a man can be a woman, or vice versa. That is an in-your-face rejection of objective truth, and objective truth was Ayn Rand's specialty. Her message is that important today, for this world. Objective truth.
And I loved that the author used George Orwells left hand cross of The State's use of propaganda with their controlled Media to compliment the right hand uppercut of Ayn Rand's Objectivism. Both of them delivered in tandem provide a powerful explanation of where we are today: The Rejection of Objective Truth paired with State driven propaganda delivered by a controlled, compliant, and willing Media, all on steroids due to the near universal omnipresence of The Internet.
MtnClimber, you asked how these Leftist institutions survive in their alternate reality...the answer is multifaceted.
In another day and age, the objective truth that we don't live in a tyrannical monarchy ruled by a cruel, stupid, all powerful King, would be branded a bunch of eccentric, dangerous kooks, and society would shun them in exactly the same way they deliberately slandered and marginalized the John Birch Society back in the Forties and the Fifties. Granted, their views back then were the first inkling that there was a 'thing' that we would recognize as the "Deep State", and I believe that even though it did exist back then in spades, the American public was unable to accept that.
But they were successfully marginalized by the Left (in the same way the Left successfully marginalized and destroyed Senator Joseph McCarthy) so that The John Birch Society would be viewed by the general public in the same way they viewed the "Heaven's Gate" cult. That marginalization was a successful integration by politicians, media, education, and entertainment.
Exactly as is being done by the "No Kings" movement today, even to the point of leveraging entertainers like Bruce Springsteen to do so.
And that is the visible means of support for the use of the "No Kings" cult: The Democrat Party, The Media that covers their actions extensively, the Educational system that is indoctrinating kids and young adults, and Entertainment that is making movies (such as the execrable "One Battle After Another" which glorifies Leftists of all stripes...a movie I watched against my will, but glad that I did) documentaries, and the late night shows and various comedians who may be talentless, but find fertile ground in the feeble minds of the sheep-like Leftists who bleat the Trump equivalent of "Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad!" as they did in Orwell's Animal Farm...never mind the likes of "musicians" like Springsteen.
But none of this happens without money. And be assured that the lifeblood of money underpinning it all not only comes from the likes of Communist China from people like Neville Singham, a U.S.-born, multi-multimillionaire tech entrepreneur based in Shanghai (who may even serve as a simple pass-through for money directly from the CCP) but from taxpayers like us who may frequent Free Republic. Money that is delivered through a byzantine network of poorly monitored and corrupt NGOs and non-profit organizations.
That is where the money for chartered buses come from. That is where the money for signs comes from. This where the money for all those astroturfed paid protesters come from. And this is where the money that provides the box lunches for those paid protesters who pile off the chartered buses, and are given a sign and a box lunch. All those sources are where the money comes from that allows this full spectrum assault on America.
So, yes. The graphic below is a powerful message that ALL Americans, whether they read the works of Orwell and Rand or not, should understand is an objectively true message:
Propaganda analysis involves systematically examining messages to uncover their purpose, techniques, and effects on audiences, both historically and in contemporary contexts.
Understanding Propaganda
Propaganda is a deliberate attempt to influence public opinion, shape beliefs, and promote specific ideologies. It often relies on emotional appeals, simplification, repetition, and strategic framing to persuade audiences while obscuring opposing viewpoints. Effective propaganda can reinforce cultural myths, stereotypes, and societal norms, making it deeply embedded and sometimes difficult to recognize.
Propaganda Analysis was one of the best college courses I ever took. It was taught with a leftist slant but I saw through it. Still apply it in everything I read.
But that REQUIRES reading more than headlines. It works and is amazing how even on FR it echoes back.

But please note that it is not about the techniques. These same techniques can be used to promote TRUTH also.
It depends on the heart of the person and KNOWING WHAT TRUTH IS. Note Trump uses some of these same things but Trump has shown us his heart. He is a sheep dog.
Sheep dogs and wolves look and act the same to the sheep, the difference is the heart.

I look at many short news clips on my i-phone. The news comes from a variety of “.com” sources. But they are all 100% left leaning...some Chuck Schumer left... some Karl Marx left... or so it seems. I assume many people receive their FIRST news like I do.
Of course, I do not stop there and search a large variety of sources.
I watched CBS Margaret Brenan interview Tom Homan and others this Sunday morning. It is obvious that she is not aware of her own “bias” ... of her own assumptions and blind spots. I’m sure she has been made aware of the opinions and direction of Weiss, Ellison, etal at CBS. Yet she has not improved. In high school debate teams, one learns to “play” all sides of an issue. Many in the newsmedia just do not have that high school debate ability.
I have 1st US editions of both Atlas Shrugged and 1984. Both have excellent condition dust jackets. I have a 36th Anniversary edition of Atlas Shrugged and that one is the one I read. I would be afraid to read the 1st edition copy.
Steve Scalise subjecting himself to that nonsense says a lot about the state of the GOP today.
Lies about how much the war will cost us -(which is NOT a fraction of what we've paid for fraud in Minnesota and California alone on government programs meant to help the most vulnerable)
By overplaying any American deaths. By predendng they don't understand that Iran has been saying 'death to Israel - Death to American' for the past 47 years.
Acting as if Iran doesn't mean their threats and choosing to ignore Iran's advanced missle systems... and capasity for dirty bombs NOW.
