100 days until America's 250th anniversary: Here's what's happening on July 4 to celebrate

WASHINGTON - The 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is 100 days away, and there are events scheduled across the U.S. in celebration.

What we know: America250 has announced America's Block Party, kicking off on July 3 and 4 in five cities across the country: New York, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Fort Campbell and Charleston.

In New York City, the Times Square Ball will drop on July 3 at 11:59 p.m. ET in a custom America250 design. It's the first time in 120 years that the ball will drop outside New Year's Eve.

Los Angeles will host a concert at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and Milwaukee's Summerfest will serve as an official America250 Block Party, featuring artists like Jelly Roll and Sam Barber.

Fort Campbell will host a festival for military families and the public.

Charleston's celebration will feature the largest fireworks display in the Southeast.

"On July 4 is the launch of America's Block Party. Think about this, I wouldn't call them viewing parties because I don't think that does it justice. These are interactive experiences all across the country," said Rosie Rios, former U.S. Treasurer and chairwoman of America 250 to FOX News.

Organizers will also compile "America’s soundtrack," a combination of the country’s most iconic music put together by Emilio Estefan, a 19-time Grammy Awards winner. Included in the soundtrack will be a new version of "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang.

I’d say April 19, 1775 was the true starting point of America. That is when our issues with Britain went hot. July 4 ,1776 was merely when the politicians of the day finally caught up with the Revolution already in play.

200th anniversary seemed more visible, but I had more of my brain then, and was a tad younger. Bicentennial Minutes on TV; QEII State Dinner with Captain & Tennile singing “Muskrat Love” at the State Dinner. QEII had a giant floral centerpiece blocking Her Majesty. Mt. Vernon may have been where the Dinner was held.

1976 was a wild July 4th. I was rocking my 1776 Tee shirt, drinking beer and shooting off fireworks with my sisters and BILs from the old Green Cove Springs, FL bridge. We had hundreds of dollars of fireworks. Set the bridge on fire at one point. We had to put it out with a couple of bait buckets we kept dipping in the water. Good times! 😏

you have a choice of dates to pick, more than are listed here:

April 19, 1775 first battle
days before July 4 ,1776 DOI agreed to (the vote)
July 4 ,1776 DOI final approval and signing
Oct 17, 1777 Burgoyne surrender after Saratoga - the turning point
Feb 6, 1778 official French recognition of US - first major power to do so
Oct 19, 1781 surrender at Yorktown - end of active military action by British
Sept 3, 1783 Treaty of Paris (this one is clearly after the fact)

There’s no July 4th in Poland? Time to buy a better calendar.

Could you imagine how bad the celebration would be if President potato-head and his gang of anti American activists were still in charge?

I remember 1976 was a joyous national occasion with lots of pride in the USA. I think 2026 will be very different. The leftists, marxists, communists, trannies, illegals, antifa, "No Kings" weirdos, and other nefarious actors who have ascended the past 50 years and who HATE the USA and Trump will not let this event pass without their usual antics...or far worse.

They will do their evil best to ruin it for everybody.

Yep, 1976 was a different world.

I would bet that those misfits will try something to make a point that no one cares about. It’s all about them.

If the troops are home from the straits of Hormuz by July 4 they will be in the parades and we will sing “From the halls of Venezuela to the shores of Hormuz we will...”

But if the troops are still fighting then the music will be quite different.

Of course there is. They just don’t celebrate it like we do!

It’s awful to imagine, isn’t it? Every anti-American outfit would have turned out to be besmirch and denigrate the USA.

The Continental Congress actually voted to break away from the British Empire on July 2, 1776. 12 colonies voted in favor of it. Only New York colony abstained until approval was obtained from its citizens. New York later voted in agreement, making it unanimous.

What was actually voted on was the Lee Resolution, by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.

July 2 is my birthday, as well.

“The Continental Congress actually voted to break away from the British Empire on July 2, 1776.”

Declaration printed on the 4th.

Presented to the Second Continental Congress on the 5th.

And not signed by the delegates till August 2.
