What's In Your Get Home Bag (or Bug Out Bag (BOB))? (Vanity)

I've recently gone back to keeping a Bug Out Bag (Get Home Bag), in my truck. I thought it a prudent step given that I live in a rural area, drive a very old pickup truck and note that the world in general appears to be getting even more crazy.

I've perused the internet and found multiple GHB/BOB lists covering the basics. However, I thought it would be informative to get input from my fellow FReepers who also have GHB/BOBs.

What? No Bible?

Apparently no teeth either. No one has mentioned dental floss.

Hi Aunt B!

Haven’t seen you posting around for a while, but glad to see you.

As for a bugout bag, I really need to set one up again. I carried one in my truck for a while during the plandemic, in case we had to stay at work for a prolonged period of time. But I kind of let that go. You do remind me that I need to be prepared more than I am.

We don’t Bug Out here in Western Arkansas....We bug in. Now having said that what is my basic load of ammo? That information is CLASSIFIED.

My Get Home/Get Stuck Out of Town Bag includes a few $1 bills, and two rolls of quarters, in case I get stuck somewhere with working vending machines that don’t take credit cards. If I ever did have to hoof it, the quarters will stay in my vehicle.

Practice.

Yes. As a matter of fact I use my same BOB/GHB when I hunt elk in Northern Arizona. My BOB/GHB is built around a medium ALICE pack. The only changes I make for hunting are to carry game bags, extra knives, more water and additional cold weather clothing. I'm confident with the system I have and have used it numerous time out in the wild.

For me, the medium ALICE is the best fit for how much weight I can reasonably carry all day.

I really like ALICE and as I noted in a reply to another FReeper, my BOB/GHB is a medium ALICE pack. I do supplement the overall storage by attaching two ALICE ammo pouches to the outside. One has my trauma kit and the other holds my regular first aid kit and some additional small items of "snivel gear."

I cut off the grenade carriers from the sides of the ammo pouches as they're not useful. Besides, I used up the last of my grenades repelling a recent Indian attack. ;>)

The chocolate might give you energy, but it will also make you thirsty. I’d pack millennium energy bars instead.

I’m so sorry you had to endure that.
Fire and water. Oh my.
2 years ago they breached our irongate dam where our family property was. It’s totally worthless now.
No compensation for that or the Almeda fire. I’ll never be able to get back home.
200 years of my family all wiped out and my kids blame me.

A BOB should usually be totally emptied and restructured for the warm time of the year, and the cold time of the year, if you are packing light and right then one size fits all can’t be 100% optimum for either.

Yep had 3 one is currently missing but still have one in my car and one in my truck

Those things sharpened might be the best all around do anything tool I know of and it’s pretty discreet for what can be an incredibly effective weapon

I sharpen mine with a blending wheel and have chopped firewood, stripped bark, dug all sorts of holes and disassembled deer carcasses a couple times with them and the oldest one I have is probably 20 years old and still 100% functional
