“Labor union officials representing grocery workers raised concerns about self-checkout reducing jobs...”

There’s the motivation right there.

I smell a blue state union kickback.

Connecticut needs a referendum to force their ‘lawmakers’ to sit on folding metal chairs in old elementary school gyms when in session.

Environment will focus their attention to important matters.

RE: ... the important stuff....

It may be exhausting their endurance. Time for some days off like when the US Congress took 10 days off as shutdown loomed and the “people’s work” was set aside.

The lawmakers can monitor the checkout records and start allowing shoppers certain items the government rules are good for them and stopping ones that are bad for them.

Disgraceful.

More governmental mission creep. To a great extent, I suppose it’s unavoidable. Give someone a bit of power, and the temptation is great to use it.

I wonder if term limits would minimize this problem.
Serve one term, then it’s back to the farm (or wherever).

The politicians believe they rule (along with judges) and the little citizens can be permitted certain freedoms which can be taken away without notice.

Rather, I wish they would tackle the important stuff besides increasing standing in line waiting. I can go along with doing it either way; just don’t like standing in line waiting. That was why I like self checkout. They have already reduced self checkouit lanes at our local Wal-Mart. Half the time only have part of the manned checkouts open. One one other grocery store usually has half their lanes closed & NO self-checkout lanes. Don’t buy groceries there. They would sell more if they used a better way. of course they would then have to hire more folks or get a little more productivity out of the ones they have.

RE: “They could be manning...”

You can’t say that, union guy. Better get on your knees and beg for forgiveness.

Personed.

Labor unions are whistling past the graveyard here. Have they somehow failed to notice tens of millions of illegal aliens pouring into America for decades? Wages have been stagnant since 1974. But this! This is the hill to die on, I guess.

No place for labor unions anymore. Particularly the teachers and government workers unions.
