The MONTHLY Gardening Thread is a gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to/removed from our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a MONTH Ping List, but we DO post to the thread all throughout the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time.

1 hour - lots of ideas, here.
Tonight is Daylight Savings Time, also.
Looks great, nice find. How about a link for cheap easy to use patio containers. Good sized. I only know about 10 gallon buckets and large purchased plastic pots.
PS I saw one a few years ago on using old file cabinets but I don’t care for the metal look. And my days of building with wood are behind me. So I guess I am thinking about plastic, taller and rectangular if anyone has ideas, thanks.
Aaaccchhh...they are predicting 3-6 inches of snow here Mon/Tues....
“Prone to Shenanigans and Malarkey”
LOL.
That is a good looking burg.

"Strong and severe storms moved through the Kansas City Metro late Friday night. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Kansas City, Merriam, Shawnee, and Roeland Park at 11:36 PM Friday. This sounded emergency phone alerts across Jackson, Johnson, and Wyandotte counties. FOX4 Meteorologists Joe Lauria and Jacob Lanier tracked the storm live on air as it moved across the state line."
Missed and did not affect me. A few sticks on the lawn and lots of silver maple buds all over the place.
I found this link that showed some creative ideas.

About half way down I saw some tubs that maybe could work, but they may not be tall enough. You would need to drill holes for drainage, though.
Some 13 gallon plastic trash containers are tall and rectangular. I might get one for a small potato crop. Put foam sheet insulation on the outside so it does not overheat in the sun. Rat screen crimped over the top so my urban neighbors can’t get in. They have eaten holes in edges of the big trash cans we have been given.
Storms passed here at midnight. Everything OK with you guys? Mom?
Cutworm protection....use toilet paper tubes sections around the plant to protect from cutworms. I think that cheap paper solo cups with the bottoms cut off would work well too. (Paper so they melt down into the soil once the plant stem is large enough so that the cut worm can't cut it down.)
Good luck and good growing!
All good here. Lots of rain but no big wind or hail.
The worst of it slid by to the south of us.
Thanks.
Thanks for container ideas friends. Pete w2e did get tornados here in west Michigan mostly a little south of us. 4 souls perished. We just had a heck of a dark storm.

Salmon with Lemon Aioli
Serve w/ a bright green side of escarole, and green beans, and chilled white wine.
Method: Grill 2-5 oz salmon fillets on med-hot fire skin side down, turn once, fish is opaque
and flaky (skin is crisp), about 5 min per side. Serve w/Lemon Aioli (mix mayo, lemon juice).
Greetings!
Here in my part of Green County, we had no storm damage last night. I was monitoring the radar until 1:30am though 😅 .
Bird watch : on Thursday I saw a Bluebird !
on Friday I saw an American Robin !
On Thursday , I planted into the newly unfrozen ground, the 12 free lily bulbs
that the Stoughton Jungs gave me during winter. The bulbs were in my fridge until planting, and most looked viable.
Today, I went to that same Jungs and got a bundle of 35 Honeoye strawberry bare-root plants. As usual I will pot them up into 3 1/2” pots and get them growing ASAP, which is on Sunday.
I was tempted to buy seed potatoes too, but am not yet sure I want to try growing potatoes. We grew them on the family farm
when I was a kid and I still remember planting, mulching, and harvesting the best potatoes.
Any good Bear Stories?
🐻
Correction: my post about strawberry sets from Jungs...”25” plants per bundle, not 35.
🙄
