President Trump sent Tom Homan to Minneapolis to declare victory and go home, and so he has.
Trump’s border czar announced the end of the ICE surge that had roiled the city and our national politics. Homan says ICE is getting more cooperation from county jails in handing over incarcerated illegal aliens, and immigration authorities have detained many of the illegal immigrants they had been targeting. It’s not clear how extensive the supposed new cooperation is, but Homan certainly forged a better relationship with state and city officials.
The big story here is that semiorganized resistance on the streets, with the support of the elected leadership in Minnesota and Minneapolis, made the aggressive federal enforcement too painful to continue. Usually, in sheer political terms, when mobs are arrayed against law enforcement, law enforcement prevails.

Why fight a city who wants more rapists and murderers when Red States want them gone and will assist to make that happen. Smart business.
Trump made the right decision. Sending in troops and declaring an insurrection is exactly what the leftists wanted. That would have produced more “martyrs” and been the springboard for a national insurrection the leftists wanted. Trump would be wise to concentrate non the massive fraud. Gov. Walz and Mayor Frey and many other Minnesota politicians are party to this fraud and should be soon arrested.

I believe that's true, at least somewhat. And I think several thousands of illegals were arrested.
Yes, absolutely. Here’s how I see it:
Trump wanted mass deportation of illegals and campaigned on it. but it was guaranteed that if ICE had to go and raid the illegals in their homes it would be a PR nightmare. Elian Gonzalez times forty million. Scenes like that would play in the media 24/7 and it would be a horror show.
So Trump did something smart. Promise to start with the criminals and have ICE pick them up from the jails. Getting rid of criminals, especially the violent ones, should be something that every sane person is for. Plus, no neighborhood raids, no press covering it like it’s the Gestapo snatching people off the streets for no reason. Everybody wins except the journalists and the Democrat party.
So the Democrats had to get creative. Have sanctuary jurisdictions refuse to cooperate with ICE and force Trump to raid neighborhoods to get the rapists and murderers. Trump was not about to give up on catching the criminals just because the jails weren’t giving them up. That way they would get their horror show coverage. And while they’re at it they could raise an army of useful idiots to interfere with the ICE operations. And if a few of them got injured or killed, then that’s a small price to pay for the PR damage to the Administration. Another reminder that Democrats don’t really care about human beings the way they pretend to.
So a couple of those useful idiots got themselves killed in Minneapolis so Trump changed tactics. Sent Homan to negotiate for the cooperation he should have been getting all along. Walz and Frey would get to brag that they got rid of the neighborhood raids, and Trump would continue to keep his promises and get the criminals with less fuss. Trump may lose a bit of face with people who wanted to see the military move in, which would have been an even worse PR disaster. But in reality everybody wins. Democrats continue to play checkers while Trump plays Kasparov-level chess.
Do I believe that they SAID they would? Sure. Do I believe that they really intend to? Heck no!
But they were great when Buckley was still alive.
Not likely. Trump has red lines all over the globe, none crossed so far.
I don't know anyone who wanted to see the military move in. What we conservatives wanted were the illegals kicked out. Trump's getting that, with less of the theatre the Dims wanted (the chaos in the streets that the Dims hoped would be their George Floyd riots sequel). The Dims are losing the PR war on it, so the Dims are caving to Trump. America wins, the Dims lose.

The purpose of the surge was three-fold, in my view:
1.) Act as a bug-zapper to draw in the Antifa leadership types so that they could be apprehended or exposed. In the process, they found out that the Lieutenant Governor was aiding the Leftist agitators. Mission accomplished.
2.) Send a message to sanctuary cities/states that their local law enforcement needs to work together with ICE or there would be consequences. Again, mission accomplished.
3.) Make some apprehensions of illegals that get broadcast on national media, thereby encouraging others to self-deport. Again, mission accomplished.
Of course, the Assistant Democrat losers at NR will declare victory for the Left. That’s their uniparty MO these days.
Then, when the time is right, come back and hammer the snot out of 'em.
This spin is predictable. Now Trump should go back in and just obliterate the damn place.
Change in tactics. Only pos losers think this is 47 failing. MN is working closer with ICE because the screws were put to them.

Yup. The locals here are furious that they gave in and will allow ICE to pick them up at the jails. . They are also furious that they can’t spend their days yelling and chasing them around. They will have to follow ICE to the next city on the list.
