YouTube ^ | September 1, 2023 | History Hit

Posted on 02/05/2026 5:55:14 PM PST by SunkenCiv

The familiar medieval Arthurian myths of a noble King ruling over his kingdom from Camelot, supported by his Round Table of loyal and brave knights who seek for the Holy Grail and slay dragons, is a legend that has been engaged with by English kings ever since the 13th Century. By the 14th Century, these tales provided a model for their kingship.ย

What you may not know about, is the clash of cultures that occurred in the 12th Century, that led to the making, breaking and redefining of Arthur's story.ย

Join author and medieval historian Matt Lewis as he delves deep into the historical context of the Arthurian legend, visiting Glastonbury Abbey and Winchester Cathedral along the way. Featuring historians Dr Cindy Wood and Dr Katherine Weikert.ย

I visited Glastonbury several times over the years, the last being with my ex about 30 years ago.

It was Easter Sunday and it snowed about 6 inches the previous evening, so I stayed rather than following my itinerary. It was rough enough driving from the opposite side of the car on the opposite side of the road and I refused to drive in the snow.

Before sunrise I walked to the top of the Tor, a mountain overlooking Glastonbury with various trails that weave like a labyrinth to the tower at the summit where St Michael’s church once stood, destroyed by an earthquake September 11th, 1275.

While the Tor is a national historic sight in England, it is also a cow pasture. It was very slippery with the new snow and the narrow path where I was surprised by cows blocking my way in the early morning darkness.

Almost at the summit near a steep drop off I avoided due to the snow and ice, the strangest thing happened. A strong gust of wind knocked my hat off my head and it flew about 50 ft, over the edge of the cliff and was gone. Much to my surprise, an updraft of wind caught my hat and brought it right back to me.

Glastonbury is a very strange place with many Wiccan retail stores and groups of self proclaimed witches dressed in Goth. The battle between darkness and Light is very strong there.

There used to be a very large used bookstore in an old factory building at the bottom of the main street, very near the castle remains where they claim King Arthur is buried. That store was one of my favorites in England.

She did not claim Arthur spoke French. The French romanticized King Arthur and wrote fictional stories about him, based on legend.

If you read Goodrich, you have to read whole hog,all of her books and pay attention to the foot notes, she did a very thorough job at debunking the French line of Arthurian mythology.

Arthur would have had some Roman vestigial culture. But he spoke Brythonic language.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brittonic_languages

Anyone who believes that Arthur had anything to do with Glastonbury Tor, is mistaken. Arthur’s grave in Glastonbury with its fake lead cross was created by the church to induce pilgrims to come, they made lots of money from doing so.

Camelot was not located in Britain but on an island which matches the castle description on the West coast of the Isle of Man, now called Peel Castle. The castle was destroyed by later Viking raiders, but the footprint and sword bridge foundations are still visible.Arthur sailed into the West after his last battle,at Camlan, headed back there from the borderlands with Scotland on the British mainland, likely dying. The site of the battle of Camlan has not yet been discovered SunkenCiv, you have lots of work to do, LOL.

You can see whats left of Camelot here:

And how coconuts migrate.

Coconuts are clearly non-migratory.

Actually, all the Pacific islands have coconuts because the ancestors migrated there by floating on ocean currents

I enjoyed her accompanying essay (in the ppbk at least) about her research into the legends. And it’s tough to come up with something new that fits into the whole cloth.

Well, Uther Pendragon had it on his banner.

Dragons are off somewhere, gargling with salt water every evening after a day of burning stuff down, and having a good laugh about Arthurian legends. ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‰

“The Once and Future King” finale is set in the gunpowder era, and even by Arthurian fiction standards is kinda worthless, IMHO.

[snip] The cannons of his adversary were thundering in the tattered morning when the Majesty of England drew himself up to meet the future with a peaceful heart. [/snip]

So what did happen to Riothamus? Did he die in battle against Saxons, perhaps even in France, or die of old age, or an illness?

Coconuts may not be migratory, but the currents that carry then can have some changes. Studying those changes would be helped by finding these “migratory” coconuts. Useful information for a sea oriented culture.

I really enjoyed learning about the gold winds "winds or" pun. Ha, just how it would be written in heraldry.

My favorite related story lines [for how to pull a sword from a stone] are actually found in the 'hidden' Hebrew pictures.

Hidden I suppose because who would think to look there.

Makes no sense.

Anyway, at least for the documentation (gee I hope I don't have any major typos in here)..

By color-matching the letters,

"Avalon": ืื‘ืœื•ืŸ

"stone" ืื‘ืŸ

That leaves the letters lamed-vav ืœื•, which is

1. "36": ืœื•
2: "to him": ืœื•
3: a reference to the traditional 36 hours of the first light of Creation (the first three days), aka the Hidden Light, First Light, Messianic Light

The Sages explain that the original Divine Light, called Or HaGanuz, the "hidden light", only shone for 36 hours.
>>>
While the Or HaGanuz has been hidden for now, it reveals itself in this world through several channels. We find that same number 36 in a number of important places.

Chanukah & the Light of Creation

4: the 36 hidden righteous ones, "lamed vavniks"

5. lou [ืœื•], Columbus' Hebrew interpreter, who was a Jew

The general direction of the etymology of Avalon goes toward "apple".

Genesis 28:19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

There's a mysterious apple tradition involving the place named Luz.. ืœื•ื– (Bethel, the "House of God"):

604. THE CITY OF LUZ

>>>

Some say Luz is so safe because it was built on the spot where Jacob had the dream of the ladder reaching from earth into heaven, with angels ascending and descending on it. Others say that the Holy One set aside Luz after the Fall of Adam and Eve, to preserve one boundary in this world that the Angel of Death could not cross. In any case, not even the armies of Nebuchadnezzar could disturb the city. Nor do the people suffer from internal strife. For all who are bom inside the city have their names inscribed in the Book of Life.

The Torah commands that the precious dye known as tekhelet be used in dyeing a thread of the fringes of the tallit (prayer shawl) (Num. 15:38). But no one knew how the dye was made, or whether it was derived from a snail or shellfish. This dye was said to be available in the city of Luz, but no one knew how to get there. King David is said to make his home there, thereby avoiding death for all time. That is why Jews sing a famous song with words that mean "King David is alive" ( David melekh Yisrael hai ve-kayyam).

After learning that Jews sang such a song about King David, the Turkish sultan accused them of obeying King David instead of him. He demanded a gift from King David, one that only King David could give him. Messengers were sent on a quest to the city of Luz. They reached it through one of the caves that lead directly to the Holy Land, discovered the secret entrance, and found King David in the city, who rewarded them with an apple from the Tree of Life. This apple later saved the sultan's daughter from a sleeping sickness, and the Jews of the community were suitably rewarded.

>>>

Tree of Souls

The gift that only King David could give to him [ืœื•] was from Luz [ืœื•ื–]:

ื–

Design
The seventh letter of the aleph-bet is zayin. Its shape is
the form of a sword. The top of the zayin is the handle, and the vertical leg is the blade. Another interpretation of the zayin's design is that it represents a crown and a scepter. The zayin thus alludes to power and authority.

Zayin -- The seventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet

The Island of Avalon [ืื™ ืื‘ืœื•ืŸ] is located in several verses of the Torah (Deu 6:5, 10:12, 13:4, 30:6, 30:10), in the same or similar words as its initial appearance in the second verse of the Shema:

First letters...

Deuteronomy 6
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love *the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul*, and with all thy might.

The letter zayin [of Luz, a word for light from another direction, from where Columbus set sail] is alluded to with "all thy might" because the letter zayin alludes to power and authority.

To explain,

Might is meod [ืžืื“]. The Wiktionary page quotes Deu 6:5 as the example for its use as a noun.

AND...

Under the Gematria section on Chabad's "Zayin" page are several examples for how 7 (the value of the letter zayin) is the sum (digital root) for many Sabbath (the 7th day) foods.

The same holds true for all thy might [ื›ืœึพืžืื“ืš]:

kaf [ื›] + lamed [ืœ] + mem [ืž] + alef [ื] + dalet [ื“] + kaf [ืš] =

20 + 30 + 40 + 1 + 4 + 20 = 115

1 + 1 + 5 = 7

And yet people think Disney is utterly worthless anymore --

"Hold everything. Someone's pulled the sword from the stone."

Peanut Gallery sez,

Yeah well the sword was actually pulled from an anvil that was sitting on the stone.

Klein's:

ืกึทื“ึธึผื ึธื m.n. PBH block, anvil. [Aram. See ืกึทื“ึธึผืŸ.]

ืกื“ื ื

60 + 4 + 50 + 1 = 115

1 + 1 + 5 = 7

Why stop there?

enigma ฮฑแผดฮฝฮนฮณฮผฮฑ = 115

๐Ÿ˜‡

Send Me the Pillow that You Dream On, so Darling, I can dream on it to. ๐Ÿชœ

(This dye was said to be available in the city of Luz, but no one knew how to get there. King David is said to make his home there, thereby avoiding death for all time. That is why Jews sing a famous song with words that mean "King David is alive")

Those references all have to do with the Moon. The place where the dye was made in ancient times is located at a lunar feature analogous to Jerusalem at the place of the Adam's Apple and a big green apple. This map topic is quite literal but beyond the scope of this post.
