Jeannine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, on Monday threatened jail time for anyone who enters the capital with a gun.
In remarks on Fox News that could deepen a growing rift between gun owners and the Trump administration, Ms. Pirro declared that if anyone brings “a gun into the District, you mark my words, you’re going to jail. I don’t care if you have a license in another district and I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else.”
Her remarks prompted swift pushback from the Republican Party’s pro-Second Amendment wing, which was thrown into a cycle of confusion and frustration over comments from President Trump and some in his administration after Alex Pretti, a licensed gun owner, was shot by federal immigration agents last month during a protest in Minneapolis.
The shooting has fueled debate among conservatives over the administration’s vacillating posture toward lawful gun ownership. After the shooting, Mr. Trump and some senior administration officials sought to blame Mr. Pretti for carrying a concealed firearm during the protest.
“I don’t like that he had a gun, I don’t like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that’s a lot of bad stuff,” Mr. Trump said last week in Iowa.
Ms. Pirro’s remarks caught the attention of several Republican lawmakers, including Representative Greg Steube of Florida, a U.S. Army veteran, who said on social media that he travels into Washington from his home district every week with a firearm. “I have a license in Florida and DC to carry. And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others,” Mr. Steube wrote. “Come and Take it!”

Bureaucrats in DC recognize permits for current and former law enforcement officers. "Rules for thee but not for me."
By honoring those but not others, DC bureaucrats are violating the equal protection under the 14th Amendment.
Who’s manipulating?

It matters not whether I’m okay with her statement. If you would do some research, you’d find that is a correct summary of current DC law. You and I may not like that law, but it remains the law. Bring a gun into DC and, if caught, you will be going to jail.
Okay, but has SCOTUS ruled that current DC gun laws are unconstitutional? I think she's required to follow their lead.
The problem isn’t that she “stated the law”. The problem is she sounded as much like a gun control cheer leader as any democrat. That’s unacceptable. She thinks guns are the problem in D.C. She swore an oath to defend the Constitution, which includes the 2nd amendment. The logical conclusion is that if gun control is the solution for crime in D.C., it would work everywhere else, too. Is that where we want to go?

The first step in changing the law is understanding the law.
Don’t you think it is important for those going to DC to understand the current law? Or, would you rather they find out the hard way?
Personally I think generally people are smart enough to do their own research and make their own decisions. I don’t need a supposedly conservative DOJ official cheer leading gun control.

Fine, but it is obvious that you do need someone to explain the law and point out that you can be arrested for possessing a firearm in DC. Good to know, right?
If anyone from the The New York Times lips are moving - they’re lying.

What are even talking about? My problem is with a senior official of the DOJ cheer leading gun control. I’ve said about 10 times already. Quit making up arguments in your head that don’t exist. Just for general information:

Second Amendment rights are not extinguished just because an American visits DC.
American gun owners who conceal carry are among the most law-abiding citizens in the nation.
They are friends of law enforcement; they should not be targeted by law enforcement.
Headline is very misleading. Legally they aren’t lawful anymore.
And of course, in this case, neither are you
Pirro didn’t say it??
Since when aren’t they lawful??

She wasn’t cheer leading for gun control. She was explaining the existing law which obviously many don’t understand.
Shut it, Never Trump.
Look. Pretti boi got what he wanted when he decided to take a handgun to a “peaceful” Demonrat Pep Rally. It’s his fault that he ended up getting his ass shot. You don’t need guns at a “peaceful liberal protest.”

I don’t think I can fully agree with your sentiments.
I would never carry and fight with a LEO but I carry everywhere. I have no problem with him carrying even carrying extra mags, although I would question the need for extra mags unless you were expecting a fight.
The problem is he didn’t peacefully surrender when confronted by ICE. He should have calmly given himself up and reported that he had a weapon. He woulod have been arrested and bailed out in a few hours but instead he decided to fight.
They say an armed society is a peacefull society and I would agree except that some people are naturally not peacefull.
Pretti boi was an idiot. Iwon’t go so far to say he got what he deserved but he could have expected to have gotten what he got by fightig with an LEO while carrying.
A mistake was made by shooting Pretti, a sad mistake but it was as much the fault of Pretti as it was the ICE agent that did the shooting. As I understand it one of the officers accidently discharged his or Pritti’s weapon and the officer that shot Pretti thought it was Pretti shooting. A sad error. This is an error that the government will have to pay for when they lose in court.
🙄 Never mind. Go ahead, drive into DC with your weapons, and out of state plates. I sure don’t care if you get caught breaking THEIR laws.
Nothing “female” about it.
