Ha! I live in NE Ohio. The weather report said that Lake Erie is 90% frozen over!
> Our lowest low was -18.
Bring on the Global Warming, Baby! :)<
The best that’ll do is -16 in 100 years.

Usually, if it’s cold east of the Rockies it is warm in the West, or vice versa. Sometimes we get cold in the middle and warm on both coasts, but I don’t recall that ever lasting for long.
It’s mostly a matter of how and where the undulations in the jet stream set up.
‘Stew’ is about 1,200 pounds, now. Goal is to have him at 1,500-1,800 by his ‘Spa Date’ in April.
He’s making great progress. I keep telling him he’s ‘carbing up’ for the Olympics. ;)
“Maybe it’s a bit more frozen than usual but this happens every winter.”
Right. Once, back in the 1800s, it ALMOST froze. But it never has completely.
It sure is beautiful!
Absolutely! Though at -18 this week, they DID push back the charity ‘Polar Bear Plunge’ so no one would die...which was nice of them! ;)
“How often does it freeze completely?”
I’ve heard that it never has. And that it did in 1848, for about a day. Now it probably can’t.
In 1964, a boom was been installed on the river to prevent large ice jams, making a total freeze-up highly unlikely today.”
We got that “cold snow” too, except it was ~4” of snow, then over 3” of sleet, then another inch or a bit more here of snow. Initially it wasn’t too hard to clear off our cars and such, except one had to break up the sleet layer, which congealed quite a bit. Nor was it slippery on top to walk on, though “crunching through” still made walking very far quite tiring, and shoveling it the same. However, it was a mistake by me to not get more of it cleared early on, despite the cold: After several days, including especially the last couple where the top melted slightly, any path became VERY treacherous AND very difficult to shovel. So, I ended up busting some of this stuff up with our heavy cutter mattock and shoveling most of yesterday afternoon / early evening, with a few breaks: By twilight I was so exhausted I came in, ate a big hot meal, and hit the sack (very early for me.) I woke up a couple times but really didn’t feel up for much until wifey got up @ 5:30 this morning, with me feeling achy but otherwise revived. I guess I pushed it a bit too hard...
Today we may get a little freezing rain, and likely a little light non-freezing rain this afternoon, then the whole mess refreezes tonight - likely still at least 3” thick and harder than ever. Tomorrow we may get up to 33 deg. F.

Right. I remember. I grew up about 40 miles south of there, so every time we had company ... off to Niagara Falls.
It is amazing.
LOL You and I grew up similarly in that respect although I was a bit further away up in Toronto. We probably watched a lot of the same local tv too.
WKBW and WBEN are all I recall. Left there in ‘66.
Channels 7 and 4. Channel 2 was WGR and the NBC outlet.
That’s right! I couldn’t recall WGR; now I remember.
What about WKBW radio and Tommy Shannon?
No I didn’t listen to Buffalo radio except for Rush Limbaugh but that was decades later. Toronto had its own radio stations which were legendary. That said it was also cool to listen to distant radio at night when signals would bounce off the ionosphere. WABC from New York and other stations like KMOX from St. Louis. The internet changed all that so we can now listen to stuff from anywhere. Communicate too. :)
I grew up in western Arkansas in a valley. Daytime signals were weak even out of Ft. Smith 35 miles away.
But after sundown, WLS in Chicago could turn up their wattage. It was top 40. 1970s.
My plan of attack is to sweep snow with a broom while it’s fresh and fluffy. And only the front porch. Anything else, call a y-chrom with a truck and a plow. At five-foot-zero and slim, I am practically useless against elements not measured in carats.
“It was down to 62 the other morning, thank goodness for heated car seats...”
Dude, If your life is so great, why do you have to expound on every thread to the proles?
