Tourists are flocking to view the partially frozen Niagara Falls, despite frigid temperatures, with visitors praising the winter spectacle as a striking sight.

-18, whoa...
Here in PA we’ve had about 2 weeks of very wicked temps, single digits at night and daytime highs in the ‘teens at best.
Then we got that snow last Sunday, about 12 inches even though the temperature was very low. I’ve never seen it snow when the thermometer reads well under 20.
We’ve been feeling very sorry for ourselves here. How in the world does anyone deal with -18 deg??
For moving water to freeze, it must get very cold.
Not sure but probably not every year. These photos show the water still flowing over the falls so it’s not completely frozen solid.
It was down to 62 the other morning, thank goodness for heated car seats... 🌴...
I did a little searching. Apparently the falls and river are only known to have frozen completely once, in 1848. The photo I saw was from 1936, when the falls and the surface of the river were frozen, but there was still some water flowing under the ice.
Way too cold for me.
My Grandparents on my Dad’s side honeymooned in ‘31 at Niagara Falls - they took pictures of themselves on the frozen falls, prized and great conversation pictures...
I love that pic. Going to use it as background pic on my laptop.
That’s pretty neat (I won’t say cool). Seems people used to walk out onto the ice back then if they wanted, without being forbidden to. I don’t think I would have, though. Maybe.
That is pretty wild
“Slowly I turned…. Step by step…”
I think Abbott and Costello did that shtick too… but they called it. Susquehanna hat company…
In all this bad weather mess, we in the Ne. panhandle have (so far) had a very mild winter; much more so than usual. I do realize that it’s only February & there is the real possibility of the rest of the winter getting much worse, and what we’ve had so far is a bit unusual. We’ll be thankful for what we’ve had so far & now we’ll just have to wait & see what is next. Maybe we will freeze all summer.
I’m in Connecticut and today was the first day in probably a week wear, it got above freezing.
Florida man problem😎

People put up with much worse, believe it or not. Russia/Siberia hits -55 in a regular winter.
If the wind isn’t blowing and you’re dressed for it, you can still do what needs to be done. You just do it (feed and water animals, shovel a little, fill bird feeders) as FAST as you possibly can, LOL!
We ended up cancelling dinner with friends and a raccoon hunt last week. NOTHING was going to be moving in that kind of weather...including ME! :)
Listen, You! You can KISS my heated car seat! LOL!
Mid 70’s today central coast CA.
Got off a plane in Calgary many years ago for a ski trip.
It was 40 below. People were warned not to wear contact lenses. The ski area Banff? wouldn’t open the lifts until it warmed to 20 below (F). Seems they wanted their employees to live.

The wimps from the south are missing all the fun!
