Elon Musk took to X on Sunday to claim two-time Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan “has lost his integrity” while debating Lupita Nyong’o’s speculated role in “The Odyssey,” Helen of Troy.
On Sunday morning, one X user claimed that if Nyong’o plays Helen of Troy, it is “an insult” to the Greek poet Homer, who wrote “The Odyssey” around 700 BCE, because he originally described the fictonal character as “fair skinned, blonde, and ‘the face that launched a thousand ships’ because she was so beautiful that men started a war over her.” Musk later commented on the post, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.”

I don’t care either way. Its a movie about a fictional event. A lot of things in the movie are fictional so having Helen be black is just one more fictional aspect of the movie. Musk “taking to X” to comment is an example of how our social media culture causes people to comment publicly on way too much. Can he have an opinion on this? Sure. Should he be broadcasting it to the world? No.
Meanwhile, the usual suspects are outraged as the potential actor to play Black Panther isn’t dark-skinned enough....
Homer described her thus:
“White-armed Helen” (λευκώλενος Ἑλένη) — white skin, untouched by Sun, softness, aristocratic beauty
“Fair-haired” / “beautiful-haired” — implies light or shining hair
“Helen like the goddesses” — her beauty is repeatedly compared to that of immortals
“Lovely-cheeked” — a conventional Homeric marker of female beauty
Euripedes was more explicit:
Fair hair, glossy, flowing, and long
Whitest of skin
A lot this mischaracterization (cultural appropriation??) of the races involved is ridiculous. I remember some double-digit IQ leftists gritching about how there were no negroes in the movie about the rescue at Dunkirk in 1940. Of course it never occurred to them that the number of negroes in England about that time was statistically zero. These are probably the same folks who complain that there are no negroes on the winter olympics curling teams never mind that there are darn few negroes living in cold climates anywhere.
E’ffing idiots ...
I own one of these, wear it around, too. Get some interesting comments.

There are beautiful black females around, and she is definitely not one of them.
Awesomus Maximus

Star Trek had the good sense to change the story more than enough to make it an "homage" rather than an atrocity.
But don't touch her tears...
Helen of Detroyt.
I recall in the post George Floyd era when DEI came into full blossom, a drama professor played a film to his class of Sir. Lawerence Olivier playing Othelo. The directors, etc, darkened his skin for the role. The left went crazy and fired the professor.
Imagine...a white man playing a black man, and dressing for the part.
IIRC, her earrings turned out to be quite useful.

So, maybe Elon should fund a non-woke version of the movie with Sydney Sweeney playing Helen....?
It would no doubt get tons more $$$ and ratings.
Feminist equity rewriting isn’t wanted or desired.
Nolan never had integrity to start off with.
He needs to find a greek actress to play Helen.
“ Nolan never had integrity to start off with.”
That’s not my perception at all
I find him very good
You owe me a keyboard.
“The world’s wealthiest man sure concerns himself with stupid inconsequential things.”
Musk’s point is the obvious effort to erase white culture followed by the erasure of the race itself. That’s hardly an “inconsequential thing”.
