I've been streaming the post-mission press conference with Crew 11, and the mission commander apparently missed ramen noodles. Oh-kay. Anyway, given my usual interest in things ancient, suddenly I wondered, is there or was there a restaurant called Ramen Empire? Regardless, it's not a new bon mot.

$7 Billion in ramen?? Wouldn’t that cover the Earth to a depth of like 475 feet or something?

"Say Momofuku one more time! I dare you!"
It was better when it was the Ramen Republic.
His first name alone is a throw down...no wonder he succeeded.
A comma, an exclamation point...a space here and there...you got a challenge!

Some ‘Ex-Prisoners’ learn from their experience, and become determined to succeed at something legal, and to never again become so desperate, that they would spend their lives committing one crime after the other.
Many other ‘Ex-Prisoners’ never learn that lesson, nor do they have any desire to accept the discipline and sacrifice one needs to (legally) make it big. Far easier to blame The Man.
Hey, if they didn’t want us to go medieval on ‘em, they shouldn’t have picked a fight.๐

Or the deep state.
It’d be ironic if his name meant something like “water flower”. In fact, this seems like a good time to use Google translate...

Brave answer to “meaning of Momofuku Ando”:
Born Go Pek-Hok on March 5, 1910, in Chiayi, Taiwan (then under Japanese rule), he later adopted the Japanese name Andล Momofuku, where “Momofuku” is the Japanese pronunciation of his given name, Pek-Hok, meaning “100 blessings”. “Andล” is the surname of his Japanese wife, which he took after marrying and becoming a Japanese citizen in 1966.
“Go Pek-Hok” sounds worse somehow, since K sound would run the table from there.

You’re right. For example, Chico never blamed The Man.
Only 475 feet you say?
When i was a kid around 11-12yrs old ABC would show a James Bond movie every month.
I had this ritual where i would have a steaming bowl of instant ramen ready for the start of each movie.
yum
ahhh the good ole days..
Ando is a national hero of Japan. Many, probably most do not know his story— thanks for posting it. The US occupation of the post war Japan meant dumping food unfamiliar to Japanese, and in this case wheat (since US thought they would make bread from wheat flour). The wheat noodle was made from this excess of flour.
Ando’s genius and persistence led to his discovery of how to 1.) cook wheat noodles and 2.) then remove the moisture from the noodles for packaging and exceptionally long shelf life.
There is a museum in Japan in his honor supported by Nissin, the original brand and his company. Nissin still makes Cup of Soup (an invention that made millions for them, for quick lunches of semi-traditional noodles with veggies) and the very same Ramen that Ando invented— “Top Ramen”.... Top Ramen is, frankly the best— and it got a lot of US students through graduate school, med school and beyond. It was not inexpensive to post war recovering Japanese at first, but to this day is relatively inexpensive good caloric support when topped with protein (fish, chicken, ground beef) and the enclosed flavour packets which can be saved and used as bullion.
Ramen is a survivalist food— very long shelf life.
The reason Ando was sent to prison is just— well, oriental and crazy.
He used his noodle to get the boodle.
When the publisher demanded Napoleon Hill give him a title for his book or he would make one up himself the publisher said, okay, it will be called my idea of Use Your Noodle and Get the Boodle.
Hill said: “You can’t do that. It’ll ruin my reputation. It’s a stupid title.”
In the middle of the night Hill woke up and wrote down Think and Grow Rich. Has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide since 1937.
But that still didn’t help him not snuff himself. Like George Reeve.
