Could someone explain to me, like I am 8, why we need data centers, centralized processing, and AI ? Why? Who decided?
You haven’t caught the ai people bots telling dramatic fairy tales of how ai will answer all our needs, pour monies all over our heads, and make us taller, blonder, fitter, and with longer legs?
We can take out that army from here.
Germany is ramping up it’s army.
We can take out that army from here.
We taught them a lesson in 1918
And they’ve hardly bothered us since then
Ah, no. You need more data centers to handle the call volume, not shorten the round trip delay. You can only get so much bandwidth into a space. Fibers & wires take less space than the devices upon which they are terminated.
You do know that YOU aren't paying for it? Right? The companies who build and operate them pay for those.
No, I seem to have missed all of that.
Trump signs executive order to block state AI regulations
December 11, 2025
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday aimed at blocking states from crafting their own regulations for artificial intelligence, saying the burgeoning industry is at risk of being stifled by a patchwork of onerous rules while in a battle with Chinese competitors for supremacy.
Members of Congress from both parties, as well as civil liberties and consumer rights groups, have pushed for more regulations on AI, saying there is not enough oversight for the powerful technology.
The executive order directs the Attorney General to create a new task force to challenge state laws, and directs the Commerce Department to draw up a list of problematic regulations.
Only Congress has the authority to override state laws.
If the current administration is trying to show the world how a constitutional republic with democratic ideals, functions - they are doing a lousy job.
Masked federal agents in the heartland, collecting and keeping the biometric data of citizens without consent, a real-time nationwide surveillance infrastructure on our highways and byways - all of these things are in direct opposition to the individual liberties outlined in our founding documents.
Now the executive branch directly usurps and nullifies state authority, as defined in the constitution.
This is not a good path.
I hope Trump has actual AI scientists advising his administration.
I wouldn’t trust many politicians of any stripe to understand either the potential or the dangers of developing AI.
We pay in water usage, water waste disposal, wells and snd much higher power bills
Why would you pay more for utilities? I guess I don’t understand how a company’s usage would affect your costs.
Scarcity
Our power costs are going up because there isn’t enough infrastructure to support the new centers
That would indeed be very irritating. Now I see where you are “coming from”.
I think you have been asking the wrong questions. The usefulness of those centers has been clearly demonstrated. It seems to me that your questions would have better results if the were along the lines of, “Why do I have to foot the bill for increasing the infrastructure in order to run these centers?”. That is a raw deal.
Part of my question is based upon the unfair forcing of these centers in rural defenseless communities.
However when I step back and look at the entire project it just doesn’t make sense to centralize processing a d talk about speed and power especially since most application actually require neither.
It seems that we need better lives. Not better processing. And work is integral to a good life.
When I listen to these tech moguls talk about the magical future that awaits us with the AI fairy... well humans are a fallen creature and the levels of death and destruction humans can unleash is terrible.
As long as the input data doesn't stray too far away from what the human masters have told it to expect.
Well, they've had to cotton...
...to losing their sons based on unbridled decisions by human commanders that prove to be blunders, in retrospect.
This is what I was getting at.
By WHOM?
WHERE in 'your town' is it going to be built?
WHO sold them the land to build it or was it taken by eminent domain?
I design microcontroller electronics circuits and then write the software for those devices. These things are used for process control, monitoring/reporting, and even motion control. Often I need to design for processes that I am not familiar with, or sometimes learned 50 years ago. So, research is definitely needed. At a minimum, I must familiarize myself with the subject matter before I can work with client personnel.
Are my devices useful? The clients seem to think so. I've worked with life safety systems for rocket engine test facilities, prison security systems, medical equipment, water purity controls, and even typesetting. I am constantly hunting for information and sometimes struggling to understand it. A late comer in my career, AI has been helpful.
Or was it... THEM???
