A Methodist pastor in New York revealed last week plans to transition into a woman and said the 51-year-old now identifies as asexual.
Rev. Phillip Phaneuf, of North Chili United Methodist Church in Rochester, made the announcement during a Nov. 23 Sunday service.
The personal update was delivered from the pulpit while wearing a rainbow stole.
“So I get to announce with joy that I’m transitioning,” Phaneuf said. “I’m affirming to all of you that I am transgender. The best way to put this is that I’m not becoming a woman, I’m giving up pretending to be a man. This is a process, and it may be shocking for some as to what this all means.”
Phaneuf added that the pastor’s sexuality is now asexual, an orientation in which a person experiences little or no sexual attraction to others.
“I’m in the category of what they call asexual,” Phaneuf said. “I’ve been that way since we’ve all been together, in that I am not living my life in a way that involves looking for romance.”

Seems like I recall in the book of Genesis God created them male and female in his own image. Apparently this guy’s theology means God makes mistakes

This is why the UMC is collapsing.
We belonged to two UMC churches (two cities, two states).
In one case the congregation left the UMC. The pastor has since been ordained in the global Methodists.
In the other case, the minister promised discussion before we had a vote. She broke her promise and rushed a vote. Not knowing what was going on, a majority voted for no change. Since that time, a third of the congregants have bolted and formed their own, currently unaffiliated, church.
So, in the first case we kept the building. In the second case those who left are now renting a building.
In the first case, the pastor is a young man. In the second case the UMC pastor is a lady in her 60s. Her retirement is tied up with the UMC.
Money plays a role. In the first place the young pastor faced no conflict of interest. So it was easy for him to do the right thing. The congregation and pastor left as a group and kept the building.
In the second case, the pastor was looking forward to her retirement. I think that guided her thinking, though she will probably rationalize otherwise. The UMC kept the church building that we all bought. Kudos to those who left the church to start over. It is not the path of least resistance.

Homosexualists and transvestites have existed in every culture throughout history, and often were open and visible.
But the people we call ‘pagans’ today in general honored and celebrated the human procreative principle profoundly.
The one thing the pagan civilizations of the past never did that that has been today is to give government backing and legalization of homosexual marriage.
