Despite only having until the end of January to pass the remaining nine annual government funding bills, Congress has so far made minimal progress.
The U.S. House is not planning on advancing anything before its Christmas recess, with all of leadership’s focus currently on a healthcare policy plan.
Republicans unveiled the text of the plan – the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act – Friday night, a counterproposal to Democrats’ failed bill to extend the Obamacare Premium Tax Credits.
The Senate, meanwhile, is currently stuck on a proposed five-bill minibus due to a couple of recalcitrant Republicans fighting over earmarks within some of the appropriations bills.
Congress has only seven weeks to find a solution before the government runs out of money, and it can take two to three weeks to pass appropriations bills through both chambers even after the text is agreed to.
The minibus, which hasn’t been publicly released yet, purportedly has $5 billion in earmarks.
The package includes fiscal year 2026 funding for federal agencies that handle Transportation and Housing and Urban Development; Defense; Labor and Health and Human Services; Commerce, and Justice, Science; and Interior.
Most federal government agencies are still running off of appropriations levels from fiscal year 2024. Congress never passed a real budget in fiscal year 2025, instead punting forward the shutdown deadline via three consecutive Continuing Resolutions.

The report also noted, during an “analytic review, NGIC personnel identified Afghans with derogatory information in the DoD ABIS database who were believed to be in the United States.”
The 2022 report affirms Gabbard’s concerns that some individuals admitted to the U.S. under the Biden administration may pose a national security risk.
“The vast majority of them were not properly vetted. They certainly were not vetted at anywhere near the standard that we require under this administration of allowing people into our country. Somali fraud in Minnesota had long been coddled by the local DFLers until it just became too huge in scale to continue covering up. But some Democrat judges are still doing what they can for their new base.
“The $7.2 million mailbox.” That’s how prosecutors described to the jury the supposed office of Promise Health LLC, the home healthcare company owned by Abdifatah Yusuf on Central Avenue in Minneapolis, where several other similar businesses were supposedly located.
Jurors saw dozens of checks written to Yusuf’s wife, family members, and $1.1 million in bank transfers and cash withdrawals to himself — money Promise Health received through state Medicaid reimbursements for claiming to provide personal care assistant or PCA services.
The jury saw it as fraud and convicted Yusuf of six counts of theft by swindle.
What the jury didn’t know is that before they deliberated, Judge Sarah West tossed out the top charge of racketeering. Then, three months after the verdict, Judge West made the rare move of tossing that out as well, giving Yusuf a judgment of acquittal.
Court records show other Hennepin County judges tossing related cases before they reached trial. Judge Amber Brennan dismissed the charges against Yusuf’s wife Lul Ahmed, and Judge Hilary Caligiuri dismissed charges against co-defendant Abdiweli Mohamud.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) was presented with evidence that Syrian Druze women were sexually assaulted during the recent waves of attacks committed by Damascus-backed militia groups in southern Syria.
The testimonies and evidence were presented to a panel after Sheikh Muwafaq Tarif, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Israel, outlined the sexual violence and terrorism enacted on the Syrian community.
The panel had met to discuss how employing AI can “safely and ethically” amplify survivor testimonies.
AI was used to alter the faces of five separate survivors, so they could testify to the UN without compromising their anonymity. The testimonies presented included the lived experience of 14-year-old Noor from Sweida.
Explaining that AI was helping to anonymize her story to protect her life, the testimony described how, in July, a masked ISIS member entered her home. He took off her clothes, she recounted, and forced her to stand on a small freezer while he beat her so severely that her teeth were damaged.
Ignoring her screams, Noor testified to how he raped her and how 20 people had entered her home to threaten her family.

A 20-year-old Moroccan man, Mohamed Amine Elouardaoui, has been placed under a mental incompetence order after investigators concluded he was responsible for a string of violent assaults on women in Prato over a period of just over two months.
Ten women were attacked, several suffering fractures and disfigurement, but the suspect was repeatedly neither expelled nor formally arrested because he had previously been declared mentally unfit.
According to reporting by Corriere della Sera, the migrant told his psychiatrist that he was rejected by an Italian woman, which led him to wage an attack against total strangers just because they were female and Italian. The first assault occurred in late September, when a young woman shopping in a supermarket was punched in the face without warning. She sustained fractures to her jaw, cheekbone, and eye socket. The assailant fled and resurfaced weeks later at another supermarket, where he allegedly struck a woman in the back of the head. In November, he was accused of tripping a woman in the street and threatening a post office employee. Days later, he is said to have punched another woman in the ribs and crushed her hands against a checkout counter.

Brazil’s State of Rio de Janeiro has passed a law that makes October 7 an annual “Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Massacre of the People of Israel by the Terrorist Group Hamas,” with the aim of “showing the importance of this date for the entire society of Rio de Janeiro.”
The initiative, which was sanctioned by Gov. Cláudio Castro, means Hamas’s massacre of 1,200 people and kidnapping of 251 people, including Brazilians, is formally recognized within the civic calendar. It amends Law No. 6645 of January 2010, which relates to the approval of commemorative dates in the state’s calendar and is now in force.
