Frank Athen Walls is scheduled to be executed Dec. 18 for the murders of Edward Alger and Ann Peterson in their Fort Walton Beach-area mobile home.

Source: Okaloosa County Sherrif's Office/Florida Department of Corrections Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a death warrant Tuesday for a man convicted of killing two people during a 1987 burglary in Okaloosa County.

Frank Athen Walls, 58, is scheduled to be executed Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. at Florida State Prison in Raiford, according to the warrant signed Nov. 18. Walls was first convicted in July 1988 of two counts of first-degree murder for killing Edward Alger and Ann Peterson on July 22, 1987, and was sentenced to death for Peterson’s murder the following month by Circuit Judge Robert Barron.

The Florida Supreme Court reversed the conviction and ordered a new trial. However, in July 1992, a jury again found Walls guilty on both murder counts and unanimously recommended the death penalty. Barron reinstated the original sentences.

According to court documents, Walls entered the victims’ mobile home in the early morning hours after burglarizing a used car lot earlier that evening. At least two vehicles were parked in front of the residence, giving a clear indication the home was occupied, according to court records.

Walls cut a length of curtain cord immediately upon entering and proceeded directly to the bedroom where Alger and Peterson were sleeping, according to testimony. Armed with a knife and pistol, he intentionally awakened the couple by turning on the light and kicking over a large fan.

At gunpoint, Walls forced Peterson to bind Alger’s wrists and ankles with the curtain cord, according to court documents. He then took Peterson to the living room, where he tied and gagged her. When Alger freed himself and attacked Walls, a violent struggle ensued. According to court records, Alger — unarmed and with his ankles still bound — fought for his life.

Walls then stabbed and shot Alger multiple times, according to court documents.

Walls returned to Peterson and moved her to an empty bedroom before shooting her twice, killing her.

By his own admission, Walls intended to leave no witnesses, according to court records.

Evidence against Walls included a taped confession, an oral confession, the gun and knife recovered from his residence, the stolen wallet and fan, microanalysis evidence, serological evidence, firearm and ballistic evidence, fingerprint evidence and blood dispersement analysis, according to court records.

After his conviction, DNA evidence linked Walls to the May 1987 rape and murder of Audrey Gygi. Walls pleaded no contest, avoiding another trial and possible death sentence. He also admitted responsibility for the killings of Tommie Lou Whiddon in March 1985 and Cynthia Sue Condra in September 1986 as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Over the following decades, Walls filed multiple postconviction motions in state and federal courts, all of which were denied. According to the death warrant, executive clemency was considered and denied. In imposing the death sentence, Barron found six aggravating factors, including that Walls had been previously convicted of a violent felony, the murder was committed during a burglary and kidnapping, it was done to avoid arrest, for pecuniary gain, and was “especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel,” according to court documents.

The court also found the murder was committed “in a cold, calculated, and premeditated manner without any pretense of moral or legal justification,” according to the sentencing order.

Walls received additional sentences for the other convictions, including life in prison with a 25-year minimum mandatory sentence for Alger’s murder, which was to run consecutive to the death sentence. He also received sentences ranging from five to 20 years for the burglary and kidnapping charges, which were to run concurrently.

Walls was 19 years old at the time of the murders.

Our local serial killer.....

A friend’s aunt was murdered by this POS, and we believe he may have tried to break into my wife’s truck at the beach one time.

Another co-worker was a neighbor of his and got into an argument with him and soon found a rattlesnake in his mailbox................

Two monster questions:
1 - Given the evidence, how in blazes did the FL Sup. Ct. overturn the conviction?
2 - Why in hades has it taken so long to get to the execution?

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Governor Ron DeSantis signed the death warrant on Tuesday for Frank Athen Walls.

Walls is being executed for the July 22, 1987, murders of 20-year-old Eglin Air Force Base airman Edward K. Alger and his 22-year-old girlfriend Ann Louise Peterson.

Walls broke into their mobile home in Ocean City, tied them up with curtain cords, then killed them. He slashed Alger’s throat, then shot him three times.

Walls assaulted Peterson, then shot her twice in the head. He then stole Alger’s wallet, cleaned up, and went to a strip club where he spent Alger’s money.

Authorities consider Walls to be a serial killer.

Walls was 17 years old when he committed his first murder on Okaloosa Island.

Honduras citizen faces 20 years for illegal reentry
On March 26, 1985, walls spotted 19-year-old junior college student Tommie Lou Whiddon sunbathing. He cut her throat and left her to bleed to death on the beach.

On September 16, 1986, Wall stabbed 24-year-old Cynthia Sue Condra 21 times and left her body on the side of a road in the Wright community.

On May 20, 1987, Walls broke into the mobile home of 47-year-old waitress Audrey Gygi in Fort Walton Beach, raped her, and then stabbed her to death.

After he was convicted of killing Alger and Peterson, Walls pleaded no contest to killing Gygi in exchange for avoiding trial, and he admitted to killing Whiddon and Condra in exchange for the state not prosecuting.

Walls’ execution date is now set for Thursday, December 18th at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.

Signing the death warrant sets off a series of court appeals to prevent the state from putting walls to death.

Death penalty sentences should be carried out within 1 year. They should get all their appeals in one order before a court with review within 30 days. Then, be gone from the earth. And BTW, this lard ass was doing some great feeding at the trough. His head looks like a farm animal.

Why wait ‘til December 18th to carry out the sentence?

Do it now - and in a manner worthy of the way he committed his crimes.

Justice is slow nowadays.

My friend, whose aunt Walls raped and murdered, has since passed away.

He would be celebrating this day he waited for for so long. I will drink a toast to him on December 16th at 6 pm...................

He should have been put to death in 92, when he was found guilty for the second time. And no dragging it out, just put the piece of shite out of his misery.

My parents moved near this area in 1989 and it was still big news then. About time this trash is taken out.

“He didn’t miss any meals...”

I spent a few years in my church’s prison ministry. In that time I got pretty familiar with the average inmate diet. Lots of carbs like pasta and ramen and light on protein.

And then it’s primarily chicken.

Plus the fact he’s on death row, time outside his cell to exercise is very limited.

I lived in FWB and remember the Whiddon murder well. It was pure, gratuitous evil. This POS should have been put down many years ago.

There are a few other murders that he is assumed to have done but no compelling evidence. Remember all these murders were done as a TEENAGER.

On September 16, 1986, Wall stabbed 24-year-old Cynthia Sue Condra.......She picked him up hitch-hiking.....

On May 20, 1987, Walls broke into the mobile home of 47-year-old waitress Audrey Gygi in Fort Walton Beach, raped her, and then stabbed her to death.......My friend’s aunt.

Also he’s suspected of a murder of a woman in a Miramar condo ...
